I started ADHD meds and am reining in my social media usage, including Bsky. I'll be posting a lot less and will probably start unfollowing a lot of people. It's nothing personal, and I'm doing well, I just need to unplug from The Discourse to a large degree.

The "it's not *completely* true" statement reveals that they probably know, deep down, that it is true.

What *might* work to tip the scales would be bottom-up mass actions like the general strike in Italy. We need people in the streets by the millions. More than that, we need actions that really paralyze the economies of the countries that are enabling this.

It wouldn't hurt if Trump's base or advisors or donors pressured him to impose a deal on Israel, but they won't because too many of them are psychotically pro-Israel despite MAGA's 'America First' claims.

It wouldn't hurt the anti-Netanyahu people in Israel actually paralyzed the country, committed to a general strike, or stormed the Knesset. But they won't, because they're more committed to national unity and liberal norms than they are to retrieving the hostages or ending the killing.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt if the EU were to suspend their trade deal in the meantime, if Turkey or Egypt were to threaten military intervention, or if the Gulf Arab states were to threaten an oil embargo.

But none of this will happen because all of those states are in thrall to the Trump admin.

As long as Israel has unlimited western support, Israeli leaders have no reason to give an inch to the Palestinians. Until the US says "Okay, playtime's over", the genocide will go on.
letsdestroy.bsky.social
The US, Israel's biggest supporter, brokers another "failed" deal because the point isn't achieving a ceasefire. The point is extending the slaughter.

Netanyahu will call this a rejection and Trump will back him up.

Full statement from Hamas, in response to Trump's ceasefire ultimatum.
On Hamas’ Response to US President Trump’s Proposal

To protect our steadfast people in Gaza from aggression and the ongoing campaign of extermination, and out of national responsibility and concern for our people’s principles, rights, and higher interests, the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” conducted in-depth consultations within its leadership, with Palestinian factions, and with trusted mediators and friends, to reach a responsible position regarding US President Donald Trump’s proposal.

After thorough study, the movement made its decision and delivered the following response to the mediators:

Hamas appreciates the Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as the efforts of US President Donald Trump, calling for an immediate halt to the war on Gaza, prisoner exchanges, the entry of humanitarian aid, rejection of occupation, and rejection of the displacement of our Palestinian people.

In this framework, and to achieve a complete cessation of hostilities and full withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas agrees to release all prisoners held by Israel, including bodies, under the exchange formula proposed by President Trump. Hamas also confirms its readiness to enter immediate negotiations through mediators to discuss the details of the exchange.

The movement also reaffirms its approval to transfer the administration of Gaza to a Palestinian technocratic authority, based on national consensus and Arab-Islamic support.

Regarding other issues in Trump’s proposal related to Gaza’s future and the authentic rights of the Palestinian people, Hamas stated that these matters are linked to a comprehensive national position and relevant international laws and resolutions. Hamas will participate in a national Palestinian framework and contribute responsibly.

In effect, in structureless activist groups, there's still an informal structure that is unaccountable, and louder voices tend to wield a kind of moral authority to keep people in line in a toxic, almost cult-like way. This is why I gravitate toward union structures like councils or committees.

I had to step away from my local pro-Palestine org because I found the discourse a little too toxic. I'm glad you found my thread validating. I found this article kind of useful and relevant to what we're talking about as well:

I've been following wars around the world since about 2003. I'm not aware of any instance where an entire city was erased in this manner.
