He wasn't forced into a virtual world; he went in voluntarily to escape his alienation and neglect.

Cults is a loaded term because people immediately think of strange religious cults with death pacts. It also assumes you need a powerful leader when it doesn't need a leader; it's more about the behavior of members. USians are so uncomfortable with grief, death, dying, emotion, and vulnerability that any picture of Asians mourning and grieving with their entire body is a sign of propaganda bc in the US you're not supposed to acknowledge grief. It's shameful, backward, wrong. In a "free country," you're supposed to be emotionless, and mass killings are supposed to be normal and every person should be prepared to take someone else's life and have the means to do so. Acknowledging the realities of death is somehow undemocratic, while killing without remorse or humanity is freedom. Yeah, it's Asians who are propagandized 🙄

As a Korean radical, I am regularly horrified by the persistence of Japanism—a fandom for Japan shaped by colonialism and soft power—among Western-educated people. By "Western-educated," I not only include non-white people, but also Asians from countries colonized by Japan.

Comparing the US to Nazi Germany isn't even apt because the US was doing genocide and apartheid before Nazi Germany. Furthermore, the US is far more powerful than Germany ever was because the Nazis were stopped. Up to date, genocides committed or backed by the US have never been stopped. Israel is only successful with their genocide because of the backing of the US, which makes the genocide a de facto US genocide. The US is the actual engine and without the US, Israel would not last. Without the US, there would be no genocide. Without the material power of the US, Israel is meaningless. Israel didn't bootstrap its way to power. It's a child writing checks with its parents' money. The parent is the real source of the problem. Comparing the US to weaker non-Western countries is just racist avoidance and deflection. The buck stops with the US. The US isn't acting like another country, it's being itself. Since it's settler colonial inception, it's ALWAYS been the problem. There is no one worse to compare because they've always succeeded at their evils at the greatest magnitudes, and they're still going. It's not past tense. As the most powerful unstopped evil empire that is both past and unfortunately still the present. That's a uniquely US trait.
