It is my hope that we start thinking about how to rebuild and sustain a nation where the government is of, by, and for the people is it was meant to be.

I wanted to see if I could start letting the kittens into the catio, but I also wanted to be sure they could not stick their heads through the chain link fence. Well I guess they have to grow a little larger.

My from-scratch #sourdough starter is 3 days old today and looking good. Just equal amounts of organic rye flour and well water.

I'm following a Ben Starr recipe. I use his recipe for my bread dough as well, it's no-knead, which is all I have baked for the past year.

I like pickled herring in sour cream. I don't like the aftertaste of fish. Tapioca pudding is my palate cleanser.

Just occured to me that tapioca boba (not shown) looks an awful lot like fish eggs. Just sayin'.

🤣 I takes my joy where I finds it.

The canyon towhees have discovered the pleasure of kitten torment.

They'll be three months old in a few days!

Leavitt says it's "very legal". Excuse me? The White House is a national landmark owned by We the People. He did not consult any of us. He tapped billionaires to pay for this project because he knew We the People would say NO!
He and they have STOLEN our property. They are THIEVES.

Seeking thoughts on the impact of yesterday's No Kings events.
Will they make a difference (I sure hope they do), and if so, how?

American workers... those would be the people who got fired from their government jobs starting with DOGE and still happening... the people being laid off because high tariffs have forced US businesses to shut down... the farmers who have no field workers because they've been deported...

These two. They are driving me crazy. They are tearing the house apart. I have little puncture wound scabs all over me. Good thing they're so darn cute.

Just say NO (and have your attorney and/or local law enforcement on speed dial)

"Open the Givernment Now" says the man who has just canceled another week’s legislative session. Mass firings of federal workers have started in an attempt to exert more pressure on Democratic lawmakers to turn their backs on America and bow down to Project 2025 like he has.

They're so cute when they're sleeping, when they're not stabbing me with their needle sharp claws.

I want to see photos of your #DIY catios! Daisy and Poppy would like to go outside. I don't want them going after the birds, lizards, etc. outside. I also don't want them to become coyote snacks or owl dinners. Obviously, a catio is in my future.
Any suggestions/lessons learned would be appreciated.

The Republican majority has >>cancelled voting<< for the past two weeks and they are not showing up for legislative sessions. If they aren't there, then there is no way to vote to open the government because REPUBLICANS HAVE THE MAJORITY AND THEY ARE THE ONES CURRENTLY IN CONTROL.

It's so damn depressing to see our government websites showing political BS rather than the info the public needs.

The "radical left" in congress isn't large enough to have control of shutting the government down. Only the regular right in congress had sufficient votes to do it.

Here's news that isn't horrible/scary/going to ruin your day:
This two month old kitten caught a mouse this morning. Granted it was a baby mouse not long out of the nest (and therefore really stupid) but still... I've got a mouser here. Yay!!!

I just made pesto with basil and garlic from my neighbor, who is an organic farmer. The pine nuts were from local trees. (The other ingredients were organic but not local). I spread the pesto on sourdough bread I got at the local farmer's market.
It's so healthy I can eat as much as I want, right?

No, Poppy is not fighting with her shadow. Her sister Daisy is underneath the futon cover.

And... it looks like I now have 3 kittens. The black one showed up at my front door at 6:30 a.m. As it happens, I have an appointment for first exam & shots for the other two, so the black kitty is coming along as well. Obviously I must bow to Cat Distribution System decisions.

I got a big discount on the chair when I bought it because of a small tear in the webbing. I figured I'd get around to fixing it eventually, but it was small and wasn't getting any larger, so I just ignored it.
Then I got kittens.
September 18, 2025 at 6:31 PM
OK the kittens are finally named. I chose neutral names (to me at least) that will allow them to be whoever they are w/o me overlaying expectations on them.

It's so dry here that mine look like this right now. Sad.
