"if you ignore bullies, they'll go away" is largely unhelpful, but for a lot of these commenters, they're seeking some small scrap of visibility and/or power over others, so why give them the positive reinforcement? let them rot in the reply trenches, face-to-face with their crushing irrelevance

hate that this is what the algorithm demands, but if the cost of visibility is handing your mic over to the worst possible people, maybe you should reconsider why you want it
