- Bluestockings Cooperative, an indie feminist bookstore, has closed.

- As authors see their books have been pirated by Anthropic and try to file a claim, they're finding that some publishers never registered their copyright. Check with your agents.

- B&N is acquiring Books, Inc., the oldest indie bookstore in the Western U.S.

This logic applies to many agents, too - with so many variations in personal lives, professional capacities, and schedules, there's simply no way to determine a 'best time' to submit to everyone.

E.g., editors have such full inboxes that it can make more sense to submit to them sooner rather than later, knowing they might not have time to read for a month or more - even if that means subbing during an oppressive August heatwave.
