Equity release needs regulating and until that happens I would not go near it
However, I believe the tax can be rolled up until the property is sold- so that seems like a sensible approach (but is funnily enough not being reported !)

equity release is like the wild west I would say steer well clear- it is borderline a scam and often preys on the elderly- it needs regulating

oddly I feel sympathy here- you buy a house in 1975 for lets say 15k (when homes were affordable) and live there all your life- you have no intention of selling- just because the house is now worth 2m makes no difference to your finances. I cannot imagine it is a common thing but it is sad.

So well observed. I know its about tech services/ products but its a manifestation of a broad phenomena. E.g. buy something online like a lamp and it turns up as a box of parts for self assembly- pushing manufacturing and QA onto the consumer along with any risk of harm (you put it together wrong)
