Cycle touring in Scottish rain seems to have made my legs stronger now I’m down amongst the pretty cottages & flint built churches of Hampshire. Mind you the hills were just as steep!

How to choose four photos to sum up five days chasing five ferries (one cancelled, all but one struggling with technical issues) around the Scottish islands & mainland peninsulas? Days of sunshine & cycling & torrential rain & cycling. A fabulous few days 🚴♀️🚴🏻♂️

If you can get to the exhibition ‘Wrestle’ at the Florence Arts Centre near Egremont, Cumbria, it’s definitely worth visiting. Jan Moss & @chrisroutledge.bsky.social have paintings & photos (& I have a small embroidery). And a fascinating place too.

Had a lovely run today before the rain arrived. I’m so glad I’m still able to run these trails even tho I’m much slower. I did perform a quite spectacular tumble on a steep path. Really rather proud of the head-over-heels roll back onto my feet, even if did I graze my arm en route 😂

I’ve been reflecting on my visit to the ‘Everest the Hard Way’ exhibition in Grasmere - looking at my 1st edition copy of the book & realising there wasn’t a single woman on that expedition. How the world has changed. And how climbing is no longer viewed in the same way. Different times.

Finished the last five miles of the New Lipchis Way to reach the sea at East Head at the entrance to Chichester Channel. Very flat. Lovely views, but very flat. I really don’t like flat walking.

What kind of country do we live in where a rich (non-dom) landowner can force his tenant farmer to not cultivate his land so the filthy rich landowner can persuade the government that the land is worthless so he can build a new town on it. 1/2

‘Half’ a Grasmere Skyline today: 14.62 miles / 4751’ ascent. Very glad I set out early as it was already hot at 8am! Ticked off Loughrigg & Silver How before Marmalade toast at Mathilde’s cafe in Grasmere. On to Stone Arthur & Great Rigg & then along the ridge to Nab Scar. An excellent day out ☺️

Today was a day for strollin’ and where better to stroll to but the newly re-opened Grove Barn cafe (walkers only) above Ambleside. The veggie breakfast was so delicious I’d cleaned the plate before I remembered to photograph it! And the views - scroll for the views! 😍

Seen on a 15 mile walk (stage two of the New Lipchis Way) from the chalk Downs (& an Iron Age hillfort) to the coastal plains of West Sussex. Only 5 miles left to walk but it will have to wait until later.

‘Only’ an iPhone shot but I loved the tree roots, even if they are a sign of the damage caused by too many feet.
