The gig was so poor we joined an action group demanding refunds for how shite it was. And we WERE refunded. Truly a phoned-in performance from a money-grabbing hag who showed nothing but disdain for her fans.

5) Madonna. Yeah, supposedly a good show to see. My wife had always wanted to see her. It was awful. Stadium gig, speakers on one side didn't work, sound was terrible. Madge turned up 1 hour late, atmosphere was DIRE. Late start = late finish and loads of people missed trains.

4) Prince. As close as I got was finding myself in an audience to Purple Rain, but it was just Lenny Henry filming a sketch. I thought it was cool. I tried to talk to Lenny later. He blanked me, like he thought he was the real Prince. What a bell-end.

... The gig was on a Sunday evening. That Sunday morning Princess Diana was killed. Much of the day spent wondering if the gig would go ahead (it did). Such an odd atmosphere walking into that one. They covered the elephant in the room, let people know it was OK to be sad ... but now let's have fun!

3) Wet Wet Wet (part 2). It gets Weird Weird Weird. My former boss fancied Lucinda ... and yet sent me on a night out with her to a gig? Strange kinda self-punishment. Weirder still: even a dead princess couldn't stop this from happening ...

3) Wet Wet Wet. Was gifted a ticket to a show at Birmingham NEC by a former boss. He wanted to say thanks to me and colleague (the lovely Lucinda) for good work. He evidently mis-heard or mis-understood a comment I had made about how I couldn't stand them. Couldn't say "Actually Bryan, I hate them"

2) Garry Glitter. When I was 16, doing my first part-time job, some people there 'ironically' liked him. We went to see him for Xmas team do (his Christmas 'gang show'). He was hilariously bad, out of shape - that was the joke, really. Of course, we didn't know back then just how bad he really was

1) Showaddywaddy. Not my choice. My dickhead of a step-dad who had terrible taste (in everything) thought it would be good to go see them. It was my first gig, was probably aged 12. Bournemouth (Winter Gardens)

Hey brother, sending the biggest virtual hug I can to you right now.

Fair dinkum. I’m not denying that there are plenty of bell-ends out there who do this. It literally only just occurred to me that that could be a factor.

Just a thought: sometimes the only indication provided is either red or green. If you have red/green colour blindness, you effectively have no indicator.

Or maybe it was just a Tangerine Dream
