“Helping” with the kitchen Christmas tree
An artificial Christmas tree just out of the box with its branches still bunched up. It is standing in a grey wicker tree skirt, but also standing in the tree skirt with it is a small silver tabby cat who is clearly about to bite one of the wire branches The same artificial Christmas tree and tree skirt but now the silver tabby cat is trying to curl around the bottom of the tree possibly to go to sleep or possibly to just get in the way as much as he can

I can’t claim to be an expert on faith and belief, but it’s always seemed to me that a fairly major component of Christianity revolves around humanity and empathy, and the friction between the concepts of the human and divine. And this feels like the exact opposite of that. It’s baffling.
Excerpt from a Guardian article on AI being used in American Christianity which reads: Gelsinger took the reins at Gloo, a technology company made for what he calls the "faith ecosystem" - think Salesforce for churches, plus chatbots and Al assistants for automating pastoral work and ministry support.

I just finished Joey Batey’s It’s Not A Cult - and it is absolutely wild, in a really fun but also really dark way. It’s going to take me a day or two to digest it, but I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like it - or at least not for a long time

Excellent evening spent with the Bath Film Festival behind the colonnades, in a vault under the road and right next to the river, watching a film about water vampires. It was all filmed around Bath, and it was an absolute joy to watch it sitting right next to Pulteney Weir
An atmospheric underground space vaulted in steel and concrete and with stone walls with a cinema screen set up at the far end. Rows of people sitting in chairs are wearing headphones to listen to the audio of the film. The director of the film is giving a short speech standing in front of the screen

I’m slightly devastated to have finished reading An Academic Affair (picked up on the strength of @sarramanning.bsky.social’s review, because when it comes to romance Sarra will never steer you wrong). Characters I could happily have spent far longer with, and a wine bar I’m distraught isn’t real

The government aims to double the number of highly skilled people coming to the UK on our high skilled routes, including the best researchers, designers, and creatives working in film and TV to ensure continued competitiveness in growth sectors. Further changes, including to the Global Talent route, will be made in 2026.
