This is what they used to call "New Journalism". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jou...
In Cold Blood was one of the founding texts. Anything by Tom Wolfe, Hunter Thompson, Mailer, Plimpton et al. Wolfe coined the term in an anthology in 1973. Lots of examples in there.

Like all great bits, it spawned a hundred knock-offs. Fair play for getting in early.

No, this was a very well known school in Dublin

The school principal, who was a Christian Brother, was having an affair with the girl in the admin office. It was true; I think they got married eventually.

And at every level of intensity. There's nowhere on that side of the dial that hasn't been tried somewhere and the results are somewhere between 'worse' and 'catastrophicly worse'

Then there was the famous exchange between Bill Gates and Terry Pratchett in 1996(?) when clearly only one of them understood where human nature would take the Internet, and it wasn't Mr. Microsoft.

They've gone from the "I'm in danger" meme to the "Principal Skinner and Mrs Krabappel were making babies in the closet" meme. Full Ralph Wiggum.

"Lol", said the scorpion. "Lmao."

Didn't even have the balls to do a Will Self-on-Mark François.

In Ireland, the Venn diagram of people who are in to Ryder Cup preview nights, Cheltenham Festival preview nights and Lions Tours preview nights is a perfect circle.

There's always more crazy.
I think US folks missed a trick by not pushing Trump to declare the world is not flat, given that 10% of his base (minimum) passionately believe that it is.

I'm not a big fan of his wife for various reasons, but she is not dumb. I would love to see the conversation around the breakfast table when that issue dropped. "Honey, did you see my interview in The New Yorker?"

Often he's just saying back to them what they've just said; but he's making sure there's no misunderstanding of what they've said, and they're hearing it like he's agreeing with them so they keep digging. The Star Wars line is incredible. An all-timer.

Was that because they indistinguishable from the 'regular' callers?

Ironically, I remember him saying in an interview years ago, that he couldn't write Father Ted now because everyone involved, including the audience, now knows too much of the horrors that went on behind closed doors in Catholic institutions.

IIRC, they were also the first company to admit that your TV was secretly listening to you all the time, since they were developing and testing their voice command software. Prior to them announcing it, it was considered tin-foil hat conspiracy nonsense.

Also, you could use an announcement about a new bus lane in Dublin as a spell to summon a Celtic demon.

Clumsily, too. He must have really misbehaved.

The X-files team did some exceptional work in this area when Gillian Anderson became pregnant just as the show became a hit.

Twice. The second (and last) time, my Dad saw what we'd done when he went tuck us in, and told us to stop acting like fucking eejits and put pyjamas on.
