I often need to be reminded of the simplest things in life to find happiness, I feel we all do.

Something that makes it hard is feeling a bit silly for needing the reminder.

I’m supposing your friend speaks Cantonese? Or..

Oddly, the folks I hear complaining about English loaner words the most are English speakers learning Japanese.

It’s almost said with an attitude of “well, why am I working so hard to learn this language if I can just use English?”

It’s weird, imo.

was chatting with a monolingual friend who asked whether i didn't feel bothered using english loanwords in cantonese rather than 'pure' cantonese, but i feel like that kind of assumes a language can be 'inferior' for incorporating vocabulary?? (as well as the odd idea that a language can be 'pure')
