No surprises in the responses to my question for Grok, re the different legislative proposals from the two major political parties while enacting changes to voting procedures in the US.

July 4 8 pm: A friend just left the San Diego Fashion Valley theater and said he was asked for identification by #ICE officers at the trolley station. Also- the mall is deserted.

He says they’re hanging out near the transit station at the southwest corner of the shopping center.

My former colleague US Senator #AlexPadilla4CA was doing the right thing to question the Homeland Security Secretary in Los Angeles

This arrest & detention of a US Senator is horrific

We need all Americans to respond loudly & peacefully, before all of us are subjected to this abusive behavior

2022: the #California Auditor found biased behavior displayed by law enforcement officers in various agencies

2025: Interagency cooperation agreements w/Homeland Security & CBP mean these officers might be doing immigration enforcement actions in CA today

Very excited that Protect Our Communities Foundation is part of an important case that will be heard by the California Supreme Court on June 4

The outcome will effect availability & costs of #SolarPower for millions of utility ratepayers.

Morning garden series
It’s iris day!

All these irises came from one cutting 12 years ago.

Now they’re all over the garden, and all open on the same day.

It’s a lesson in “carpe diem” - these flowers are “1 day wonders” that will be gone by sunset.

One plant produces a few flowers each year.

Do orgs like @redcrossny.bsky.social have access to this facility & others holding people under the “Alien Enemies” act?

POTUS alleges drug cartels are “at war” with the US- so many of these people are POWs

Under the Geneva Conventions: They are entitled to medical care, humane treatment, etc.

If you want the essence of onion flavor in the smallest delivery package, grow onions and harvest their tiny flowers to add to sauces, salads, and sautéed vegetables. (No chopping or teary eyes necessary.)

Adding “driving thru Rose Canyon” to my list of “places I’ve been during earthquakes”
(Drop & cover not an option)

A few previous memorable earthquake locations include:

- Underground in a SFO BART station at Market Street 😬

- 20+ floors up in San Diego Symphony Towers (swaying 😳)

4/ Is yelling “comply or you will be shot & the dog will be released” and threatening violence a good de-escalation method?

We were relieved when the person was taken into custody without the use of weapons or dog

I don’t know if our observations & presence made a difference, but if so… good.

2/ In contrast: a few hours after the march ended, I walked back to my car to discover 6 or 7 SDPD cars, nine officers & a canine unit responding to one person in a mental health crisis.

And instead of calling a CRT (Crisis Response Team) -they threatened to shoot him & set the dog on him…

1/Please call #SanDiego elected officials & communicate concerns about the lack of effective SDPD traffic control at the #handsoff event on April 5

SDPD stopped a speeding truck carrying a motorcycle- but many other cars were stuck In traffic and/or drove right up to marchers at intersections.

To put things in perspective:
Today’s market losses wiped out 10% of NASDAQs gains, & about 7% of Dow’s gains, from the last 10 years

But… #LiberationDay!

It started out as a cool, gloomy morning, but the sun is breaking through now.

Many people come here for their spring recess, expecting a more tropical climate, and are disappointed when the sun doesn’t cooperate.

(One word: layers!)

Have a great weekend!

Today I had a private 2 hour paddle boarding lesson (only one person signed up for the class😝) at the mission bay aquatic center in San Diego

I managed to stand up- but realized I may prefer sitting to better enjoy viewing/photographing wildlife for longer outings.

Klan leaders used similar tactics in the 1920s: They recruited & deputized chapter members in Indiana via an outdated “horse thief” police operation

Members could cross county lines & harass, detain and intimidate people without accountability.

Morning garden series- bird watching from my front porch.

Finches, sparrows, doves, hummingbirds are most common and often nest around the garden

Cooper’s hawks often follow.
