virtual high fives / faith + justice / harm reduction always / frontline: outreach + case mgt / toronto / carbs / views mine ✌🏼 / email for interview requests.
it is SO hot. 630pm and some of the city’s “cool spaces” have closed.
there still is only one 24/7 cooling centre and it has no cots, no food, no privacy.
organizations haven’t received their water yet.

like are yall just waiting for a death before any urgency?!
July 16, 2025 at 10:26 PM
imagine wearing these shirts in a housing crisis.
July 15, 2025 at 2:09 PM
toronto is under a severely bad air quality alert, and there is ONE 24/7 cooling centre.

no cots, no food, just four tables and foldable chairs, right in the middle of the elevator access at a busy Metro Hall - no privacy.

how is this acceptable!?
July 14, 2025 at 6:32 PM
heatwave again. hot outreach!

no cooling centres. (the city says they have “cooling centres” but they’re literally just places w AC that close and aren’t suitable as respites). no water to orgs yet.

what’s the plan here toronto? this is a public health issue.

HUGE gratitude to Mohamad
Fakih at Paramount foods. 🙏🏼

when the city failed to ensure people had access to water, he/his team donated 6 skids of water (~300cases) in 12hrs. the water went to EIGHT outreach groups in the city, including @OOTC_StLukesTO !

will the city to step up?!
June 25, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Heat Relief Network tells people to go swimming to find relief.

Going great, isn't it?

24/7 cooling centres are needed.
June 23, 2025 at 5:28 PM
bless the private donor for giving water
bless the driver who cut through rush hour traffic to get some sauga to toronto

shame on the city for being woefully unprepared for the heatwave

this stopgap is nice but not sustainable at ALL. will the city step up?
June 23, 2025 at 2:39 PM
7am. we out here dropping off water and things for our neighbours outside & then waiting for a delivery of more water from a private donor cuz the City doesn’t seem to know summer comes yearly & didn’t get water out to orgs BEFORE the heat wave that we knew was coming weeks ago.
June 23, 2025 at 12:15 PM
going into a heatwave and the city’s plan to support unhoused people is the “heat relief network”, telling people to stay cool by going to malls, splash pads, pools…

this is absurd. bring back cooling centres. deploy water trucks.
June 22, 2025 at 3:10 AM
it has been non-stop cold rain & there are no respites for people unhoused. for years we said we need inclement weather respites not just “warming centres”

someone riding TTC to stay warm? leave them. someone at a coffeeshop staying dry? offer a drink. ask if they want anything.
May 22, 2025 at 12:43 PM
winter storm out here and the city didn’t even open up surge sites. ok.
February 13, 2025 at 3:56 AM
there are 100,361 active housing applications in Toronto for subsidized housing right now. thousands more inactive. 37,923 of these are seniors (55+).

i am told by source the City is currently processing applications from 2015. things are bleak.

make housing an elections issue.
February 6, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Toronto budget season is about to wrap up. Of note is that the cops are set to receive yet another $40m & “encampment response another $8mill. And this isn’t encampment response like idk HOUSING but in displacement and eviction.

cold early outreach morning. temps will keep dropping. have stuff on hand for when see you folks, whether on the streets or highway exits… be kind! and match this with political pressure for these conditions of social neglect to change.
January 20, 2025 at 2:24 PM
cold snap coming, and the City still has not announced any surge sites for additional warm spaces. what are you waiting for? we are also going into the weekend with even less services open.
January 17, 2025 at 6:16 PM
feels like -18C tonight and the city has not announced opening winter surge sites for extra warm spaces for people.
how many freezing deaths will it take for them to take this seriously?
January 13, 2025 at 9:01 PM
for extra cruelty, the city dropped off these notices to one of the folks we saw. warming centres are full, no surge capacity, and now you’re making people dismantle the structures they’ve set up to keep warm?? this is cruel.

@MayorOliviaChow @BravoDavenport @ausmalik
January 9, 2025 at 7:15 PM
it’s freezing out and the city closed surge locations and warming centres are full. this, after someone just froze to death before christmas.

social murder.
January 9, 2025 at 3:15 AM
went on outreach with two phenomenal friends & humans today. it was cold.
spoke to a number of people, including a person who is 61, and has been homeless for 8 years. worked his whole life but spent the last 8 years sleeping in a park. can’t get a shelter spot, can’t afford a place.
January 9, 2025 at 3:15 AM
In Nov 2024, Central Intake received an average daily of 799 calls, and out of those 16 calls resulted in a shelter bed. That means you had a 2% chance of getting an indoor space.
January 9, 2025 at 3:15 AM
outreach is/was v cold
January 8, 2025 at 11:02 PM
it feels like -19 right now
why would you close the surge spaces?!
January 8, 2025 at 1:34 PM
feels like -10C out there and warming centres are closed.
January 3, 2025 at 2:53 AM
We need year-round inclement weather respites; not merely “warming/cool centres”. Toronto is under a rainfall warning & warming centres are closed bc it’s not cold enough. Imagine living outside in this - being soaked is miserable.

You, your belongings, everything - soaked.
