I love the room for everyone part. A thing I picked up from running is “If you put the shoes on, no matter how far or how fast, you are part of the club.” And I wish science was better at that.

Somehow NW caving pisses me off more than Cornell caving. No clue why, but it does

I think the get a job thing is so much of it. I’m in STEM. I want my students to employed. But mostly I want them to have complete and happy lives. Personally, I couldn’t give two shits about NACE competencies and want employers want.

Read your story in The End of the World as We Know It. Really liked it. So then I decided to read Fervor. And it’s really good too. Thanks for writing!

Taught my first few large lecture chem courses and thought jeez this sucks. Like what if we didn’t bore the students to death? Been doing the scholarship of teaching and learning ever since.

About a year before I was done I met my wife. She wasn’t my wife when we met, that came later. Anyhow, she was a few months from completion and already had a job two states away. So we moved here and there to get jobs in the same place and I got the first teaching job as a trailing spouse.

Yup. It is weird. We had a dog named Zoey (she came with it) and I was thrown when I had students named Zoey. To do it actively just seems goofy.

Which would also work!
