- He practices his magic alone upon the beasts of metal and wood, reviving them from their decrepit slumber

- After months of exile, the king summons the apprentice back with a promise to return him to the duchy in his own tower, on the condition that he toil alone on the king's ancient, enchanted contraptions
- The apprentice agrees
- ...but the king has not built a tower in the duchy.

- The royal sorcerer hears of the plan, and fears that it will lessen his influence in the duchy
- The sorcerer whispers in the king's ear that the apprentice wishes to usurp the kingdom's magic, and must be dealt with
- The king exiles the apprentice

- Gets cast off to a far duchy where the royal sorcerer hasn't set foot in decades
- Spends time among the smiths and farmers
- Becomes acquainted to the duchy, and befriends its citizens and the duke
- The duke asks the king to establish a permanent tower for the apprentice, assigning him there

The last two years of my life if it were medieval:
- A wizard's apprentice is welcomed to a kingdom as the royal sorcerer's assistant
- He is summoned daily from a dungeon to tend to what the royal sorcerer has neglected
- He grows weary of the sorceror's apathy and the king's fickle whims

this is the second time in 5 years where I initially tested low enough to treat, but the doctor was skeptical and ordered a repeat, and that came back at a level where the doctor said I was Close Enough™
