Home repairs and headaches got between me and accomplishing much as a writer or editor today. But then I see a truly fantastic debut novel I edited earlier this year, The 12th of Never by Oje Kendi, released today, and that helps a lot. If you love Stranger Things, this might hit the spot.

I'm currently reading this book, & it's quite good. The publisher's tagline is "The Great Gatsby meets Hellraiser," & while that's a big claim, I think the story lives up to it. The MC is a flawed but relatable young woman who makes smart choices in a horrific situation. And it's scary AF! #bookrecs

Thanks, Gabino! If I were looking through my catalog for a good #FridayReads book to distract me in the midst of the current swirling chaos, I would probably pick this one--pretty rich people in Paris in the 1920s actually trying to protect the marginalized and do the right thing. And murders!

When people ask what inspired me to write my Southern gothic horror book, The Devil Makes Three, I show them the Daughters of the Confederacy monument in the center of my hometown. They put Christmas lights on it when I was a kid.

So I have this book series set a hundred years ago in which a young woman of insane privilege uses it to solve mysteries and prevent people without power from being made scapegoats and chewed up by the big machine. And the latest installment came out earlier this month. :)

Thanks so much, @gabino.bsky.social ! Some of what I write is scary, some of it is sexy, some of it is funny. But this might be the only book I've written that is consistently all three, and it's definitely the only one inspired by Red Dead Redemption. :D #FridayReads
