The new season began with Brian J Burton’s melodrama The Murder of Maria Marten (or The Red Barn), so it’s quite fitting that, 60 years later, we open the 2025 - 26 season with a new adaptation of the same story: Beth Flintoff’s The Ballad of Maria Marten.

We acquired the building a decade later, and MADS Little Theatre was officially opened by the mayor on 21 September 1965.

The duo originally recorded The Red Barn in 2003 but that version told the tale from William Corder’s perspective. This new recording shifts the narrative and gives voice to Maria’s own story. It’s available via madstheatre.org/the-ballad-o... and all proceeds go to East Cheshire Hospice. 2/2
