The Workflomics Project on AI-driven workflow bake-off aimed for the stars to reach the treetops. In the end, we even made it into outer space! Great collaboration with co-PI Anna-Lena Lamprecht, @pratikomics.bsky.social and many others. Here our #spaceselfie: space.crunchlabs.com/selfie/RvYBRmg.
Space selfie, a photo taken of a screen displaying the Workflomics team at a stakeholders' meeting in Dresden 2024 from a satellite in orbit around the Earth, with the planet in the background.

Shot twice today - once in the left arm (covid) and once in the right (flu). Probably best to bike home while my arms still work...

Do you see long tails in the LC peaks from the abundant (e.g. albumin) peptides?

If it's only every four years, it maybe even more special indeed. I hope the Hochzeit dishes were more enjoyable than our raw herring and white bread.

Good luck, regardless of which adventure you embark on! We are excited to see how things unfold.

I wonder what fractions of "journalists" are actually doing journalism, by this definition? 10%? 5%?

Is the Oklahoma City bombing included or excluded? It would also be interesting to see stats on political violence in general (hypothesis being far-right violence is more often committed with guns and therefore more lethal).

ChatGPT suggests responding to that post by playfully leaning into the “veneer” metaphor with: “Don’t worry, mine come in solid oak. No veneer, just heavy and impossible to move.” I don't think comedians need to worry about being replaced by AI any time soon.

You can make a multi-course meal with NIST standards. Quenelles de SRM 1946 anyone? Mousse au SRM 2384? Finishing with an SRM 1196, if you're so inclined. @benneely.com can probably tell you how to best prepare the SRM 1945.

The Netherlands is moving fairly rapidly in the opposite direction though. Grant proposals will be rejected if you mention IFs or brag about publishing in "top journals". Utrecht University will stop their WoS subscription at the end of the year, so they won't even be able to look up IFs.

Beyond the hilarity of needing to cite ten different versions of the Bible, I was surprised so many of them are copyrighted. Are they not all claimed to be translations of 1900+ year old texts true to the originals? Shouldn't the texts be for all humanity, e.g. in the public domain?

But I agree the dates give a first impression they were sitting on this manuscript for four years (from 2017 to 2020), where in fact it was "only" two years and one month. Still, unacceptable IMHO.

Their excuse - and I think it is a pretty poor one - was that the manuscript was assigned to an editor who basically stopped doing his job (but "forgot" to resign from the editorial board). It is of course the EiC's responsibility to monitor these things, and reassign manuscripts to another editor.

There was no PhD student who needed this out, and after a year and a number of emails, we just wanted to see how long they would sit on a manuscript. We've seen similar work published more recently (in Nature family journals), so the idea was probably good.

There is sometimes a local optimum near the measurement uncertainty in MS1 (i.e. a couple of ppms), but usually better to have a window that covers the isotopes (and the isolation window, to identify co-isolated peptides), like @michaellazear.bsky.social said.

ELIXIR-NL's @magnuspalmblad.bsky.social co-organized the Computational Proteomics Dagstuhl Seminar 2025, uniting experts in ML/AI for proteomics. Breakouts sparked collaborations, manuscripts, and proposals, making this the most productive seminar yet. #Proteomics #Dagstuhl #Collaboration

If (and that is a big IF), SVT would ask difficult questions and challenge the ambassador's lies, it would be OK. But based on their abysmal track record, I won't expect SVT to be informed enough, or to have the guts, or will, to do this.

I hope the photoshopping at least reduced the amount of radioactive waste (even though 35S is pretty short-lived)!
