There is no moral way to meet racism and xenophobia halfway. Every cultural argument against immigration is based in white supremacy. And there aren't a whole lot of good practical arguments against it: immigration benefits the US far more than it harms the US.

Uhhhh I’ve seen very few “pop” concerts tbh but

- Laura Marling (x2)
- Suga/Agust D
- James Taylor
- The Indigo Girls (x2)
- 아이들 (i-dle) (x2)
Introduce yourself with five concerts you've seen

(Only five?!?! I’m dying over here)

Madonna (x10)
Tori Amos (x6- including once at the Sydney Opera House)
Prince
Florence + The Machine (x3)
Christine & The Queens
Introduce yourself with five concerts you've seen

In the order they occur to me:

A HUGE part of the problem is that the "A.i." industry markets this tech as a flawless solution for everything - in search for example. The marketing implies "A.i." gives true answers when "truth" has nothing to do with its process and it consistently delivers bullshit. That's INCREDIBLY dangerous.

took this stance real early on, have been paying close attention, and i have yet to see a single thing that manages to challenge that opinion even a little bit, rather than solidifying it into diamond-hard conviction
I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

Israel’s two-year assault on Gaza has left a catastrophic death toll that is even worse than most official estimates, according to European researchers. A study released on Tuesday estimates that “the current violent death toll” in Gaza is between 99,997 and 125,915.
Gaza Death Toll From Israeli Genocide “Likely Exceeds” 100K, Study Finds
The new research also found that Israel’s war led to a precipitous plunge in life expectancy in the Gaza Strip.

Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Woke up because I felt weird. Had some water, shuffled around some blankets. Then it happened. I looked at the pill pod on the bedside table, and I realized.

I took the morning pills instead of the night pills.

“Political prescription isn’t the point; teasing out the humanity of these people is.”

An incredible critique by @angelicabastien.bsky.social’s via @vulture.com that looks at the faults of ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER without negating the agency of its Black actresses.

I will add the following: our students lack the research skills required to audit an LLM essay for errors. They don’t arrive on campus with these skills; we teach it to them over four long years. So throwing freshmen in the deep end and saying “swim your way to a shore of rectitude” is folly.

Just saw someone described as an "ontologist" and now I want Clinical Ontologist to be a job title.

Welcome to the Department of Clinical Ontology. Let's go over your chart. I see that you are. Are you still as you were or are you otherwise? For your case of being, I prescribe becoming.
