So, if a species (w/a set DNA code) must have a survival directive to persist in spacetime, can individual behavior, iterated by numerous members, really be considered as "selfish" or even spontaneous?

Presumed at the time, or by looking back from now?

I'd say that no analysis is complete w/o looking at the evolution of technology of knowledge conveyance. Starting from oral traditions & more circular philosophies, arching through the invention of the codex & then the printing press & cheap paper.

Various problems with this post from @billybinion.bsky.social, which echoes an entire cult of ignorance.

A tax is a % of what you earn from other people in the #system. If you taxed all the earnings of a billionaire (or any rich), they would make it all back the next year. Same accounting as gov.

Let's talk about our so-so world.

Great things are rare by definition. Same for the terrible.

These extremes take a higher weight in our perceptions; if we leave them out of the equation, we have just "true #mediocrity" left.

How do consensus driven notions contribute to this?

In the many decades since inception, people have worked out classical explanations for most, if not all quantum postulates. (I've not exhausted all avenues.)

Humans have a well-known hindsight #bias where we take our present knowledge w/us when examining the past. This is part of what drives aggrandization & outright false narratives of the past. (Q-state selector??)

It's easy to claim QM is responsible for just about anything, but much harder to prove.
April 21, 2025 at 11:30 PM
Jonathan, all of these concepts were in play well before QM. They were familiar w/the terms, equations, models, etc.

In optics, acoustics, & EM theory.

Helmholz turned ancient concepts into scientific #measurement devices.

The steam engine analogy definitely won't travel that far, but the literal classic version of stimulated emission is 2 tuning forks.

You impart physical energy to one by striking it. The other (tuned) device will, in the time the wave takes to travel, begin to oscillate. The dBs combine to >output.

If knowledge was created only by intentional, single method-based success, we could just focus on the applied fields.

An important paradox in information #philosophy is that the least probable results of experiment have the most value. However, this means >>Qty of 'low value' results accumulate.

"By flooding search results and web crawlers with falsehoods, the network is distorting how large language models process and present news and information."

The same basic information structure we've always had, but automated for propaganda & disinfo.

Economies & societies (nationstates) are #systems.

As such, they naturally avoid single points of control, because they're also single points of failure [SPOC/ #SPOF]. That means it only takes 1 error for the whole system to crash, 1 well placed attack or blackmail, etc.

I mean, Mr. Hopkins' acting is 1st rate, of course. But could he pull off the long-haired, barefoot gruffness the way Jack Black could?

I had a little more time this morning to look. It looks like the spectral radiance is the common point, so we end up with W·sr−1·m−2·Hz−1 & W·sr−1·m−3.

I wondered why, of course. Your analogy gave me part of it, and the image below did the rest. I had imagined a rectangle rather than conical!

When does #democracy & consensus work?

When voters have independent thinking, rather than group think passing along bias.

When 2 political parties control the process, their biases become integrated & best outcomes rarely happen. You don't get "win/win."

There is definitely important restriction happening at the nascent connections between our overly-specialized fields, aka #multidiscipline, #crossfunctional, #interfield, etc.

As we are able to combine/generalize areas, #complexity thinking should help integrate our #knowledge.

To be fair, that's probably the least Robert Redford looking picture of him that exists.

A young Grizzly Adams would be a strong contender to confuse it with, from that same time-frame.

I think that movie is my oldest memory of a seeing a film on the big screen. Had a white cat named Pilgrim.

You can set that option on your posts (even retroactively, I think).

But I agree, more tools are needed. Hopefully, we'll have a 3rd party app than can analyze our personal networks and help select some categorical options. "Mass unfollow/mute/whatever".

Someone with more legal chops than me should check into the principle of Chain of Custody, regarding this. (I know it's not exactly the same.)

I mean, it would not be acceptable for another person to write a witness statement or police report, and then have the actual person/officer sign it, right?

A good example of this is 'Thinking, Fast & Slow'. Several different fields are used to generate hybrid ideas.

I argue that his System 1 & 2 model of how brains work is evolutionarily/logically/statistically required for any system to sustain itself for long times.

We all want more agency in our lives, having a say, etc.

When we consider where we live, whether more locally such as the town, or large scale, such as the nation, we must consider everyone else's agency too.

Each person's agency adds a degree of #complexity to the whole #system. Therefore ..
