Just a reminder that Elon Musk has never had a single relative wear the uniform or bleed for this country. If he wants to threaten a veteran, he should try doing it to their face.

Just so we are clear, Trump’s 4D chess tariff strategy is to hold everyday Americans economic security as hostage just to win some petty, symbolic personal battle with world leaders.

In normal times I would see this as murder suicide, but I guess if Trump does it…
It’s a battle of political leverage. Who can use tariffs, retaliatory tariffs or sanctions to create more political pain for the other leader. Forcing them to capitulate or face undesired consequences.

How crazy would it be if China, Mexico and/or Canada initiated tariffs before Trump took office
From your standpoint as a businessman and manufacturer, is there any sense behind this? Especially now that other countries are threatening tariffs of their own in retaliation. But that doesn't make sense cause it would mean raising their own taxes.

Attacking the flank opportunity:.

Remember the selling point of tariffs were that they would bring back manufacturing jobs. So if the purpose has shifted to a leverage stunt, then why not ask, “Did Trump actually care about bringing back those jobs?”

Why do we let them shift the goal post??

First steps is to admit there’s a problem.

Second step is to be cautious not to become cultural cannon fodder at every symbolic slight to our liberal sensibilities. They will lay well planned traps.

Third step is to attack their flank.

I’m starting to think that the longer we shield Trump voters from the worst economic outcomes, the worse things actually will get.

Sometimes people just have to find out the hard way, sad as that is. Yes, we will suffer. But at least they will learn that elections do have consequences.

Mmmhmmm….

Will note that throughout history, large scale detentions/internments/imprisonments are accompanied by slavery or shades thereof.

Me thinks it is naive to think the US has fully moved passed forced exploitation of human labor for other’s economic gain. All ingredients exist here.

We are all entitled to one “I’ll sit with anyone else but him” for our mental health.

However, I would add that gone are the days that the US alone led the liberal world order. If the liberal world order is to survive, leadership will need to be shared across London, Paris, and *critically* Berlin. Each must increase defense spending. 🧵1/3
