A device that can be bricked and is unrecoverable is totally unnecessary, and a bad system design. A reset switch and immutable backup firmware that is written to the persistent area eg SPI flash solves this. Most data centres devices i.e. SSDs, GPUs etc have this basic feature of recovery.

Not sure what board you S3 is on, but check there is an antenae connected thats working, can you read which SSIDs are available as obviously this doesnt need any connection. Failing that its probably faulty hardware then if other S3's are working with the same code.

Does the ESP32 get an IP address from the Wifi Router you are connecting to ? If not check the router is receiving a legit request from the ESP32 ie SSID and password - also Wifi version 7/6/5 also signal freq ie ESP32 doesnt support 5GHz/6GHz wifi only 2.4GHz.

Why on Earth would you give Google even more of your personal data ? Having an Android Phone or USing Chrome/YouTube is bad enough, but allowing them into your home as well ? Madness.

I agree, PlatformIO + VSCode is good for multifile/complex projects, supports many controllers & debugging is easier. Using ArduinoIDE for 10 years now, it's still my "quick n dirty" IDE but long build/link times, bad error reporting, and the extra URLs for board support are all inconvenient.

Power Arduino via USB-charger 110V or battery(needs recharging). Arduino powers the sensor (Ard always powered use low power). If you want Ard near main plug run cable to Reed, if not, run 5V to door. Reduce cabling with wireless reed switch (battery last longer), Ard gets the signal via wifi/BT.

Yes lots of copyright material that Google profited from. Video on the internet from slows internet traffic (60-70% of traffic), meaning governments spend more tax payers money upgrading internet infrastructure. Relative to profit, Google pays very little taxes outside the US.
