oh and here’s the passage from which this piece was born

Ed wakes up in the kitchen. It doesn't occur to him that he should be in bed with Stede, doesn't occur to him that his ankles should be aching, so he goes back to what he's doing. He looks down at his hands and he's making tea sandwiches, a cucumber held down with one hand and a knife in the other, cutting into it to make thin slices. He hums to himself, a soft melody he can't remember the source of.
He can feel that he's hungry, but he's in no rush to eat.
He takes a loaf of bread and slices into that as well, cutting the slices into little squares, setting the crusts aside. He lays the cucumber slices on one side and spreads cream cheese on the other, placing the cream cheese side down on the cucumber. He smiles down at his work and turns to look at Stede, who is suddenly there and in motion. He comes up behind him and wraps his arms around Ed's waist. He says something to him but Ed doesn't hear it, all he can hear is a faint buzzing, all he feels is warm.
He leans back to mouth at Stede's neck, takes a moment to wonder how he got so lucky, and then bites down.

Being in close quarters with Stede after everything - the heartbreak and the crying and the sobbing and the throwing up from sobbing and the falling asleep sobbing and the waking up sobbing... and then the reconciliation, all of it — is actually pretty fuckin' nice.
Everything feels perfect even when it isn't. The scarcity of food makes everything taste even better, the straw mattress is a nightmare but it feels like a dream when he's lying next to Stede. Manual labor feels exciting - he's fallen off the roof twice. Stede has fallen off more.
Ed caught him once, and the combined weight of them and the force of the fall sprained both of Ed's ankles.
Ed loves it, loves him.

what you will do is look at the beautiful art @rysiutokwiat.bsky.social made of the lyhap boys. @littlefingies.bsky.social gifted me a commission which was truly the nicest thing ever especially because it produced this lovely rendering of that first dream sequence in the fic (linked below)

what is basically a screenshot of like your heart’s a pomegranate. ed is cutting up a cucumber and leaning back to bite stede’s neck. stede has a serene and soft look on his face. there is blood coming from the bite mark. they are both shirtless. there is a second view of the two of them from the back.
