not with this council voting down the motion for 16-to-vote without even a word of acknowledgement to all the young people who came out to support!

Thank you so much to @womentcities.bsky.social for organizing this and bringing together so many parents to raise awareness about the harms this budget will mean for children, families, and vulnerable communities.

ABC councillors saying that it's "unfortunate" people are linking closed baby change tables as being political, or part of the budget.

But it was a deputy city manager that explicitly raised removing them from high vandalism areas as part of cutting the budget for maintenance of civic facilities.

Great thread, so many inspiring images. Does Seattle not actually barricade the street at all? Are there no volunteers or staff to redirect drivers??

he’s running for the nomination, but one city members will vote to decide who the party will run.

ahhh haha yes this makes more sense! it’s certainly a quality of life benefit, and really just basic public infrastructure, the maintenance of which is exactly a “core service” of a city

Hi, I'm one of the people who thought this up, and I've changed diapers in most of the places you've listed just in the last year. Access to change tables is very limited, but I so appreciate it where I do have it. City facilities are usually one of those places. It's plain stupid to rip these out.

p.s. yep, I care about this enough that I will film myself in public *and* share it on the internet. I'm embarrassed, but here we are

I feel like the Sun literally only wrote this for us to repost it in rage and get them a bunch of clicks. I simply cannot fathom that this might be serious.

hahaha I did personally submit a lot of breweries to this map after a very sad floor change at strange fellows :(

The logic seemed to be that maintaining them is significantly costly. This might be true (though I'm skeptical how much maintenance budget is dedicated specifically and solely to change tables)...but as you say removing them will also be costly, in both $$ and social costs. It's not worth it.
