Via @pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy "Microsoft "invests" in Openai by giving the company free access to its servers. Openai reports this as a ten billion dollar investment, then redeems these "tokens" at Microsoft's data-centers. Microsoft then books this as ten billion in revenue."

Hey #mathsky, would it be too nerdy if @bookshop.org branded their Anti-Prime free shipping deal "Composite"? Asking for a friend.

You are right, there's always at least 1 match. There's a cute math name, too: Pigeonhole Principle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeonh... What a neat example of applying the principle! Let's see if I can get my students trying to make non-matching sets. 😉 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeonh... #iTeachMath

The photograph shows a circular artwork made out of natural materials, you can see the feet of the students that made it standing around it.

Fermented (live) sauerkraut or the liquid from it. There is published research about it. Also, yum!

Similarly to defining other interactions ("Should I apologize for stepping on your foot?") it might help to switch from communicative intents to communicative impacts.

It's all disturbing in so many ways: the scale of burning up resources instead of solving for human needs and dreams. That can't last in the long run because the resources are not renewable, but economics acts faster than ecology. Even the current messed-up economics won't sustain that grift. Yay?

What a fun Fermi problem to read! For a while now, I've been looking forward to the time when economics and thermodynamics cut down the big silly AI and we can finally enjoy the more sustainable, reasonable, and humane AI. This mathy saga is validating my feelings. 😆 pracap.com/an-ai-addend...
An AI Addendum
Last month, I chose to strip away all the hubris around AI and ask one simple question, one that oddly no one had really bothered to ask; how much revenue is needed to justify the current level of cap...

She also taught us to band together, to always show up for one another's presentations at conferences, and to arrange, ahead of time, for someone friendly to be around our talks. We could think of good questions ahead of time, that sort of thing. "Me and what army? This!" A buddy system.

My academic advisor (a mom of 4 and a hero of women in academia) often said that if it's a shark situation, one quick bop on the nose might stop it. Figuratively speaking. I saw her at that, too, for example, with a warning tone, a glare, and a pointed pause, "Let me finish!!!" when interrupted.

Today’s #mathober is polyhedron. Which is your favorite? Why?

I will start my sketches later- any suggestions or takes on the prompt are welcome. What Pacific Northwest bird should be next?

"latte time for teachers"

😳

tell me you've never been a teacher without telling me you've never been a teacher

Peter Singh TDSB : how do you ensure that time saved by #AI doesn't turn into "latte time" (his words) for teachers.
Well first. Every time saving innovation over the past hundred years has not reduced teacher work hours.
And second. OFFENDED.

I tried again right now. I wonder why the backgrounds and arrays are so consistent. I started a new thread with this prompt at the top.
