Today, the PhD student I co-supervised with Dr. Toni Saarela, Lari Virtanen, is defending his thesis on color ensemble perception at the University of Helsinki. It is both a happy and a sad day. Toni passed away only two weeks ago and just missed seeing his first PhD student graduate. RIP Toni ❤️😔

I’m absolutely fascinated by the late 19th century Austrian artist Marianne Stokes and am embarrassed to admit I only saw her art now at the Gothic Modern exhibition in the Finnish national gallery. Her use of red gives me chills.

I like how the perception of 3D structure in this starts and ends strong while devolving into interesting chaos in the middle. #VisionScience
