Yes! There were a ton of funny moments. (The payoff of the telepathy joke was my favorite.) I also appreciated how (almost) all the characters were likeable and distinct from one another. So many movies forget that aspect.

Night Six! In honor of tonight's full moon, I'm watching Howl (2015). I don't know a thing about this movie other than werewolf + train, so I haven't even watched this trailer yet...

I ended up only watching Mystics in Bali last night. I have zero regrets. Every horror fan should watch this movie. It's not a good movie. It's an unpredictable, entertaining fever dream with some delightfully gooey practical effects.
Image from the 1981 Indonesian horror classic (?) Mystics in Bali.

I liked it. Definitely weird, and I'm glad that it's so different from the original. It reminds me of the Fright Night remake: same basic story, but it makes the story its own.

Thank you! That sounds like a very interesting premise, and I don't mind a slow burn. I will definitely check it out!

Night Five! I don't think I've ever seen an Indonesian horror movie. I am torn between the well-regarded May the Devil Take You (2018), and the notoriously bonkers Mystics in Bali (1981).

That was a ride! I've tried watching Suspira a couple times before. I got annoyed, and quit. I'm glad I watched a few of his other films, and then came back to Suspiria with a better appreciation for Argento.

Night Four: I am a bit embarrassed to admit this, but...
🩰 Suspiria (1977).

(I have seen other Argento films: The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Dark Glasses, Deep Red, Demons, Opera, Phenomena and Tenebrae.)

Whatever she did to replicate Technicolor in The Love Witch just blew my wig right off.

The Poe retellings are all fun. My personal fave is Tomb of Ligeia, but you really can't go wrong with them, if you're in the mood for Vincent Price skulking around a crumbling mansion or castle.

OMG, The Face of Horror looks just like one of those Roger Corman Edgar Allan Poe movies! So excited! 😱

I've wanted to see it ever since you talked it up! What a weird, cool, gorgeous movie! It's a perfect 1960s vibe down to the mannered acting - with little bits of modern tech to throw you off balance. (It reminds me of that inexplicable clamshell phone in It Follows.)

Night two will be a double-header of Mad Love (1935) and Murders in the Zoo (1932). Both of these films run about an hour.
