I’m actually just three penguins in a trench coat.

Ah, the Antarctic Treaty. When the whole dang world came together and agreed that the continent of Antarctica should be protected and only used for scientific research…crazy, right?

This is very "Oops All Ocean Animals" but then again, my name literally means "from the sea"

But seriously, I brings me so much damn joy to see the community of sci-art folks, coming from all different practices, flavors, and angles. I felt so alone with my nerdy science and art interests in my teens and 20s; it makes my heart happy to see so much incredible science-inspired work.

Unlike the time where I was teaching squid dissection classes. I smelled so bad after work. Still loved it though! I contain (scented) multitudes.

So many of the things that I pursued felt separate and fragmented, but it all comes together eventually. Also, I’ve worked a lot of random jobs too; mostly food service/retail…like that one time I became a baker and made pies. I smelled so good after work.

Thanks for sharing your process! I especially love the iridescent-y wings. I’ve been wanting to get into sketching with color; this is an inspiration!

Dream team! These puzzles are so much fun and beautifully made - I was gifted the nautilus one years ago and it’s a joy to do over and over. Now I wanna get yours - it looks incredible!

I bet just having the space for students to ask curious questions will be great!

That article is amazing! I always wondered about how cow birds figure out how to cowbird; brood parasitism is definitely another cool bird mystery.

Waaaaaa I wanna know if the ones up here in Nova Scotia do too! I mean, not to stereotype, but this is Canada. The goldfinches better smell like maple syrup!

Haha yes!!! I always picture the penguins going on some soul-searching road trip…but even just the idea of being out there in the open ocean for long stretches of time, it’s wild!

Preening (and preening gland) is cool too, like waterproofing and maintenance in seabirds. Molting is interesting too! (I confess, most of my bird knowledge is seabird-based). Oh, and Leach’s storm petrels smell like buttered popcorn? (At least to me they do)

I immediately thought of Adélie penguins- after they fledge, they just go off into the unknown for a few years and then come back to the colony they were born in. Mysterious penguin teenagers! Similar to migration, but still neat.

Thank you for making the trip! I grew up in MA and now call Nova Scotia home, and the history and tradition of the tree is something I wish I had learned about as a kid!

The Maritime Museum is awesome - I spent the whole day in there! Halifax is a real good time. I’m up in Cape Breton (but shamefully haven’t made it to Louisbourg yet). Sounds like it’ll be a fun trip - holler if you want any recommendations!

Thank you for this thread - I grew up in MA and now call Nova Scotia home, but I had no idea about the history behind the tree until I went to the Maritime Museum in Halifax. I broke down crying in the exhibit about the explosion. I wish more people in MA new about this history.
