Sometimes a quiet point of resistance to the simplifications of politics might lie in the deceptive simplicity of art.

Tonight at the Théâtre du Soleil. Had my ticket taken by Ariane Mnouchkine herself. And great, cheap food in support of Ukraine. I know we have no money, but can’t help thinking British theatre could follow the lead on building communities.

Snow in Paris today. Faintly falling on Belleville …

I remember talking with Hamish Pirie at the Traverse, Edinburgh, about my ‘Mirror Plays’ (inscribed on mirrors around the theatre - lift, staircase, bar, etc.). H, nervously: we’re not putting philosophy on our walls, are we? Had to laugh today to see La Colline quoting Levinas above the front door.

Même mieux la deuzième fois. Spectacle très émouvant, intelligent et fascinant. @lacolline_tn

Even better the second time. Highly recommended if you’re in Paris and have 6 hours to spare. The emotional impact is only possible on that scale, I think. Someone should write a book on Mouawad (disclosure: I am writing one …)
