I still would foster a dog first Just In Case theres smth abt the process im not aware of until its in practice yk

most shelters provide u with a lot of the tools u need to foster a pet, but
fostering a pet first teaches u

1. the elements of that pets care u may not have accounted for
2. if u have space for the pet
3. if u have time for the pet
4. possibly, if u can handle committing to that pets worst traits

I realized this when I got a rabbit

I was so excited, super prepared with supplies, financially stable, etc

but when I got him I realized my room was too small to house him and myself comfortably :( so I gave him his own room but the extra in rent was really taking a toll on my wallet

u may THINK ur ready for the commitment bc u got all the supplies, or uve the pet before

but sometimes u dont realize there can elements of ur lifestyle that dont align with the pet u want, and once uve committed to a lifelong pet, it may be too late to make adjustments

if ur thinking abt getting a pet, u should foster one first to make sure ur ready for the commitment in current ur living situation
