I was honored to keynote the HARP-PS Positively Aging Project Conference 2025.

We are a community that knows the gift of aging — defined not only by loss, but by purpose too. We’ve survived, but the epidemic isn’t over. We must keep bearing witness, honoring the lessons, and serving where we can.

Still buzzing from seeing my dear friend @kebmo.com in concert last week in Santa Fe! All I can say is wow, what an experience.

I’m so grateful for all the years of friendship we’ve shared and the ones to come. Check out his #TajMo album, “Room on the Porch," and all his incredible music: kebmo.com

Helping bring “Nourishing The Community” to life beside its creator, Robert Vargas, was a profoundly meaningful experience.

This mural reflects all that Project Angel Food represents: community, compassion, and limitless love. I'm so honored to have added my brush stroke to this work of heart.

August 19 was the anniversary of my speech, “A Whisper of AIDS,” and #WorldHumanitarianDay. Both call on us to speak against injustice, act where you can, and serve others — even when the obstacles feel insurmountable.

Thank you Spectrum SoCal for helping me share this message. #ActForHumanity

Thankful to @windycitytimes.com for this interview on the anniversary of my '92 speech. The deadly ignorance then echoes today in dissonance around HIV/AIDS, COVID, & medical science.

With compassion & unity, we can protect each other, honor those lost, & keep fighting for justice. bit.ly/MF_WCT

Thank you, @newsnation.bsky.social, for this interview on the anniversary of my 1992 speech. I appreciate the opportunity to reflect on that day, other major moments of my life, and above all, my commitment to speak up for others — whenever & wherever possible. www.newsnationnow.com/health/mary-...

I’m deeply grateful to see my op-ed in @time.com on the lessons from the AIDS epidemic that remain urgently applicable today.

Facing the truth, however painful, is how we begin to restore justice and reclaim our humanity.
The AIDS Crisis Offers a Warning About Trump's Research Cuts
Trump's “policies are a reflection of a broader belief that some lives are more valuable than others,” writes Fisher.

33 years ago today I spoke at the RNC, urging the nation to confront prejudice, break the silence on HIV/AIDS, and save lives.

I'm grateful to all who’ve joined me in the journey since and raised their voices for justice & dignity — reminding me that change is possible, and we are not alone.

In 1995, I was to exhibit my art in the Senate Rotunda. It told stories of activism, AIDS, and life and death. The Senate banned it at the last minute. Thank you, David Kessler, for the chance to share this story again.

It shouldn’t need saying, but, building a $200 Million gold ballroom while claiming we can’t afford food, housing, healthcare, or public broadcasting is offensive and repulsive. It’s an embarrassment.

Cynthia Erivo was absolutely brilliant in Jesus Christ Superstar. The presentation was amazing and otherworldly – it truly brought tears to my eyes. I saw it for the first time in the 70s and the message of the show is still relevant today.

I’ve got news for Texas Republicans: This is no longer the Wild West.

New York will not let democracy get hijacked in a modern-day stagecoach heist.

Many of us, especially women of my generation, were raised to be silent. Speaking out was discouraged. I admire everyone who speaks out, especially those who grew up as I did.

To everyone still finding their voice — know that you are powerful, despite every effort to make you believe otherwise.

Those who censor artists seek to silence truth & resistance – something I have experienced first-hand.

Amy Sherald’s bold stance against the Smithsonian’s censorship of her work is an inspiration. When we defend our artistic freedom, we defend our democracy.

I’ve recently rediscovered the joy of working with pastels. Art has always been a form of meditation for me; sometimes it offers a reprieve, sometimes clarity.

Whatever medium you use to create moments of peace, make space for it. Rest is not surrender — it renews our strength to keep going.

Silence is not an option 👏👏👏

Every act of resistance matters. However you’re showing up — you matter. Keep going.

To anyone in a community who no longer accepts them, I know what it’s like to stand alone, to speak alone.

To realize the people you once called your own are not who you believed them to be.

But hear this: even if you feel alone, you are not. Stand in your truth. There is family to be found.
Mary Fisher sits at a kitchen table immersed in conversation with Heather Cox Richardson. On the table are a collection of books they are likely discussing, as well as a couple of wine glasses. Heather Cox Richardson sits at the end of a wooden kitchen table, speaking to Raashan Ahmad from Vital Spaces, and another woman. Behind them are tall glass windows and a large fiddle leaf plant. Mary Fisher and Heather Cox Richardson stand side by side smiling at the camera in a kitchen with white stone walls and a large fiddle leaf tree behind them.

Sometimes our pain feels too private, too overwhelming to speak aloud. I understand that. But I’ve learned, often without realizing it at the time, that telling our stories can be a form of healing.

Proud to support the #GoodTroubleLivesOn movement, honoring 5 years since the passing of John Lewis, whose powerful words live on in the continued fight for democracy: “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America."

“I’m not yours to silence. I never was.”

I’m moved by Rosie’s fierce courage in standing up for herself and others. She has always known how to speak her truth, and this one is a powerful message that I know will give many the strength to use their voices too.

We don’t need to be more than we are. We just need to respond to our own uneasy silence by speaking the truth and caring for the Other.

Thank you, @publisherswkly.bsky.social, for helping me share the message told within “Uneasy Silence,” expressed through my lived experiences and my art.

History repeats itself but we determine the outcome. We have a say in how we answer when asked, “What did you do?”
