Journalist Siobhan Roberts, a regular NY Times contributor and biographer, speaks with mathematician Annachiara Piubello about math and music, puzzles, the universe, and more in the latest SLMath in Conversation: www.slmath.org/news-and-eve...
A Conversation with the Musical Mathematican Annachiara Piubello.

Quote: “I do general relativity. It’s pure math, but the questions come from physics—the physics is what got me curious—and in that sense it’s applied math because it’s not just math for its own sake. The mathematical language general relativity uses is differential geometry. In explaining what that is, I tell my mom I do calculus on something that is not flat—it’s calculus with curvature.”

Get a taste for Dr. Piubello’s research into fundamental questions about how our universe is changing over time – and her love of puzzles and music – in this conversation with Siobhan Roberts.
