sports/video games/political despair

Often talking about fun video games on the Button Mash podcast
Dispatch really stuck the landing (in my playthrough, at least).

I was just about to grow tired of the actual gameplay but for a glorified tv show, it was pretty incredible.

💦Waterboy 4 eva💦

(Also, I have been playing everything on my Ayn Thor in the past few weeks and will continue to do so)

I can only assume that these new Team Canada jerseys are a direct reference to the 1980s Canadian glam metal band Helix

Here’s my latest in a long line of extremely cumbersome Halloween costumes

Finally, a Dallas equivalent to this Houston meme

I don’t know what’s crazier, Austin Reaves dropping 51 or the refs actually giving him the whistle enough to have the second most free throw attempts by a player in a game so far this season.

I am absolutely buried in new game releases, I did not need BALL X PIT to be so good and so wildly addictive.

BALL X PIT coming out so close to Megabonk is absurd.

Surely I will feel some fatigue with roguelikes soon, right?

Gonna be a fun weekend.

Despite how bad a taste Microsoft has left in my mouth with their Game Pass price hike, broken promises, and murky messaging...

I'm absolutely hyped to play all these October releases on Game Pass. I might still cancel my Game Pass subscription at some point, but it won't be this month.

New Button Mash!

@benlindbergh.bsky.social, @danielhchin.bsky.social,
and I talk Ghost of Yotei!

It's another outstanding game in a stacked year of game releases.

Plus Justin Charity is back to talk with us about the EA sale and Xbox woes!

Someone must have clearly vetoed "HOLY SCHLIT" because that should have been a layup.

I recently completed Silent Hill f and Ghost of Yotei.

Hinako and Atsu are both determined protagonists, summoning the strength to be their own women rather than the women others want them to be.

Now I'm watching this loser struggle to put one foot in front of the other while holding in his pee.

Unbelievable that the cartridge for Link’s Awakening in the Lego Game Boy set has a little battery in it. The real Game Boy cartridge for Link’s Awakening needed a battery to save the game.

I’m 40 hours into Ghost of Yotei. It’s hard to express how much I love this game.

There are valid criticisms that Yotei is at its core a familiarly structured open-world game with edges smoothed out to be frictionless.

None of that matters to me because Yotei does everything so exceedingly well.

Actual lol seeing Palworld announce a farming spinoff days after Pokemon announced a farming spinoff.

I finished Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.

I thought the combat was excellent and linking combos through dashes is very satisfying.

The controls generally feel great and while they’re perfect for the combat sections, they’re a little loose for some of the most challenging platforming sections.

Incredible advice here, never thought about what injuries could do to my team.

I have sent this image to two different friends asking me what I’ve thought about playing Snake Eater for the first time.

What a back-to-back it was playing Sword of the Sea and Herdling.

These are both visually arresting games with elegant scores telling heartfelt stories without any dialogue.

The majestic, awe-inspiring environments in these games frequently demand your attention and respect.

Just played the demo for Absolum and it’s awesome.

The unfair quick explanation is Hades but with side scroller beat-em-up combat.

And it’s excellent, deep, customizable combat with multiple characters AND co-op play.

This is a day 1 purchase for me in October. Very hyped.

Hey you know what this non-turn based Pokemon Legends Z-A combat reminds me of?

Palworld 😏

I can’t express how wonderful it felt to play a banger of a straight-up adventure game in 2025.

While you can of course play The Drifter with a mouse, they really cracked the code on playing an adventure game with dual sticks.

And the game logic is solid start-to-finish with nice subtle hints.

You know how every year there’s a few gaming masterpieces created by like one guy?

Öoo is brilliant. The only language in it is logic.

This is elegant, thoughtful game design that places you in position to discover game mechanics rather than teaching them to you.

I can’t recommend Öoo enough.

I don't usually buy physical or collector's editions of games but TAKE MY MONEY!

(You are legally required to play UFO 50 on your Switch if you've never played UFO 50 btw)
August 7, 2025 at 4:35 PM
This is a very small thing but I absolutely love it when a game has a way of visually conveying that you have exhausted all dialogue with an NPC.

(This is the excellent demo for The Adventures of Elliot)
