Like if you put me in charge of our housing crisis, the foundation of that pyramid for me is "address anything that's adding people who are currently housed to the unhoused population" - that's gonna be by far the easiest and cheapest thing to tackle. And the stats indicate we're failing there.

I think the argument is that by pulling money away from things that A: get people into long-term housing and B: keep people housed who already are, we're allowing the pool of folks who need help to grow faster than we can shrink it.

All the while they get to use publicly funded roads while barely paying taxes, and offload all the negative externalities, from traffic to pollution to crashes. While also doubling as a mass surveillance network ripe for abuse: www.wired.com/story/waymo-...
How Waymo Handles Footage From Events Like the LA Immigration Protests
Waymo driverless taxis capture troves of video footage in order to operate, but the company reveals very little about how much data is stored—and for how long.

This argument also completely ignores the reality that every magical tech solution follows the same arc, from Amazon to Uber.
First they show up with amazing service & low prices. Then they drive out all competition, then when people have no alternative left, prices skyrocket & service deteriorates.

Order of operations is backwards here. We reclaim that space from cars, creating incentive to use other modes. Not hope that some magic bullet tech reduces demand for it, thus making it politically easier to reclaim. As it is parking space mostly sits empty. Making it a bit emptier changes little.

Wait is there an actual usable route to NW 23rd via Forest Park? 👀 I'd love to visit that area more but the lack of good connections has been a barrier.
(I want them to extend the 15 bus route so bad 😭)

Indeed nobody should be defending uber/lyft "jobs" as a reason to not do good things.

But also allowing robotaxis is not a good thing, and it is coherent to argue against rideshare/gig apps *and* robotaxis on the grounds of them being inherently extractive and inflating VMT.

I feel like this needs to come with a quote post or something? I've never once seen anyone have this take.

Lyft/Uber are terrible & should be banned, *and* robotaxis are terrible & should be banned. It's not like we have to pick only one awful thing to hate.

The new game "Where the Winds Meet" uses AI chat bots for NPCs. It's really uncomfortable.

Wuxia MMO Where Winds Meet is full of AI chatbot NPCs, and people are doing all the standard obscene stuff to them: 'I made him think that my character was pregnant with his child'
Can't we just go back to the Zork school of NPC dialog?
