We cannot be under-prepared at this critical moment when President Trump is escalating his attacks on cities and carrying out his cruel deportation agenda on our immigrant and refugee neighbors with warrantless arrests by masked, un-identifiable officers.

The second Executive Order strengthens services for immigrant and refugee communities and will develop new legislation to prohibit the practice of masked, non-uniformed federal agents conducting immigration enforcement raids within the city.

Our president fundamentally fails to understand what makes America special. He sees cities as "war-ravaged" military "training grounds" and political enemies because they didn't vote for him. Cities are hubs of innovation, drivers of culture, and contribute 90% of America's GDP.

Cities do not need the federal government bringing in armored vehicles, semiautomatic weapons, and military personnel to make them safer. This strategy only serves to escalate tensions and sow fear and distrust in communities.
