I haven't even touched any of the books I'm writing recently because I just don't have the energy for it. I miss writing, I miss trying to voice act, I miss streaming. Instead I'm basically Yamcha lying in the crater.

Finally getting around to learning how to make decent-looking pixel art and I had a bit of fun during one of my practice sessions yesterday. Today's practice was with color and shading, but I didn't quite like how it turned out. Maybe I'll redo it tomorrow and share it.

Took a trip to the local shelter yesterday and made a friend. :3 I can't bring him home right now, but there were a lot of very good signs. Like he decided to climb into my lap by himself, I just let him do his thing. And let me tell you, the rottie rumble is real. He was so content.

Watching a lot of @drawfeeshow.com and @lavendertowne.bsky.social has had a really interesting effect on my dreams lately. I was asked to give a level in a game a "flight aesthetic" and really only recall this little guy. I swear I've seen him around before, but it was a lot of fun to draw him.

Watching a lot of @drawfeeshow.com and @lavendertowne.bsky.social has had a really interesting effect on my dreams lately. I was asked to give a level in a game a "flight aesthetic" and really only recall this little guy. I swear I've seen him around before, but it was a lot of fun to draw him.
Real talk, Manila is gorgeous. So lively, so full of people going about their days or having a good time with each other, I know I hardly scratched the surface. But it was nice to just spend time with my partner and walk around. Definitely want to come back in the future. Have some photos!

Perler Moo Deng is coming along, but I seem to have lost a few beads along the way. I can fix that pretty easily, it's just annoying.

Something I appreciate about how internet humor has evolved is that it's strayed away from edgy jokes and nosedived straight into surrealism and non sequiturs.
The edgy stuff is still there, obviously, but it doesn't land quite as well as stuff like polar bears pretending to be people.

Wanted to draw another mech, but I kept thinking of the Meep from Oddworld (and the nightmare that was wrangling them as a kid playing Munch's Oddysee), so I tried drawing it from memory, then kinda rolled with it until I had this little swamp fella in between some mangroves. I dunno, it was fun.

Couldn't focus on my book today, so I used that time to draw. Don't really know much about shading or perspective, but I like mechs and this was pretty close to what I saw in my head. Feels good, feels really good. Kinda want to do more with this guy.

Japanese practice continues, and I've started getting to words I recognize from games and anime. One of today's words was "おまえ" (Omae) so naturally I wrote it in a sentence I knew from Fist of the North Star. Kind of tragic, kind of funny, but it's helping me internalize it at least.

We had a pretty gnarly storm roll through yesterday, and it knocked down a massive pine tree on the neighbor's property. Fell at an angle, but it came pretty close to our house. It's a shame, these trees have been around as long as I've been here, but that's part of life.

It was actually this particular sign that got me curious about cave diving. I don't remember where I saw it initially, it may have been an Atlas Obscura post. Either way, something about it made me wonder, and I haven't stopped wondering in the years since.

Been falling asleep to old Drawfee episodes lately, and I briefly woke up to hear @atnathanyaffe.bsky.social or possibly @caldy.bsky.social mention burritos. In that moment, I had a vision, so I give you a brief sketch of Burrito Man. I don't know how to draw aluminum foil, but this was fun.

In two days, I managed to start and finish Labyrinth of the Demon King. What a fantastic game, and I clicked with it almost immediately. In fact, I started a second save almost right away. That's a rarity but I love it. @jrhudepohl.bsky.social did a great job. I'll need to do a write-up eventually.

You know what game I really liked that I don't hear people talk about too often? Breath of Death VII. I haven't played it in a while, but I laughed so hard the whole time that it definitely cemented its place in my heart. Y'all should show @zeboydgames.bsky.social some love.

Ended up scrapping the rooms I'd made previously so that I could deal with room transitions and the death state. Now the player has an actual death animation (I use that term loosely) and the camera scrolls before moving the player to the next room! A ways to go, but it's progress!
