My sister and I use the TV Tropes phrase "hype aversion" in these situations. Like I know the kind of stuff I love, but I end up in the same boat time and again. Something legit cool shows up and I'm just "ehhh."

I've had decent luck with a couple of Logitech webcams. Right now I'm using a C270 and it's got pretty decent video quality. Mostly just use it for facecam in the corner during streams, so your mileage may vary accordingly.
