I just finished reading Arthur C. Clarke's 2001 A Space Odyssey. It can be considered a collection of predictions of where technology will take us, and some have come true already. The Grok white genocide embarrassment from a while back is essentially a non-lethal version of what happened with Hal.

There are few things more terrifying than looking into your jungle of cables and seeing a single unconnected HDMI cable looking straight back at you.

Switch 2 game cases look much better than I was expecting them to based on the renders. Looking forward to seeing Prime 4's case.

This week I finished reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a collection of short stories originally published within The Strand Magazine. This one was a bit of a slog to get through. The stories feel repetitive when read in succession, and weaker than novels like A Study in Scarlet.

From making this face for too long?

Twilight Princess watching a Nintendo YouTuber call Skyward Sword "The most linear Zelda" for the 500th time (Disclaimer: this is a joke; video games are not sentient individuals capable of observing events and feeling mirth).

This week I finished reading Dune Messiah. Seems Frank Herbert wasn't content to write just another rebellious adventure for Paul.

I forgot to say this, but I finished The Silmarillion last week. For years I was scared away from this book by people telling me it was too hard to get through or not a proper story. Having now finished it, I think this is my new favourite book lol

New clothes wowzers

Enemy appendages now have health bars, instead of health rings. Doesn't look as nice imo, but maybe more intuitive for new players.

You can exceed the old level cap of 60. In the original, powering up for endgame content meant hours of grinding enemies for drops and spamming multiplayer missions so you could craft busted Augments. The new levels were likely added to make powering up faster and less reliant on online.

This new area is a bit beyond what I'm capable of speaking on, but that voiceover by Elma is like the most tender she's ever sounded.

The Skell is original Ares, a tandem model piloted by Elma and an unnamed "lone hero". You can read a bit about it in this official short story: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Thank you very much to Gessenkou for the translation. The lone hero is likely the guy talking to Lao on the beach.

This Skell can be seen in the opening cutscene of the Wii U game, fighting the Ghosts. The Skell and Ghosts are never seen again for the rest of the game. They'll finally return in DE.

I always assumed the guy who approaches Lao at the end of the original game was the unused Black Knight character, but he's wearing a casual duffel coat in DE so who knows anymore

This is Neilnail. She was supposed to be in the story of the original game, but was cut. Perhaps all the new content is in fact stuff that was supposed to be in the original game all along. Also she is clearly the same race as Celica.

These Skells are called Neilnail Furvus and Neilnail Albus. You can fight them in a time attack mission and some squad missions in the original game. It seems in DE they will play a role in the story, as they likely were always meant to.

As pointed out by x.com/robottsie, this new Skell was present in concept art for the Wii U game. The pilot has never been shown to us before, however. Their strange helmet is a departure from the rest of the game's style. New character artist?

Verus is back to being called Wels. They're always flip-flopping on this. I adore the HP and GP colours.

There's a new gauge beneath your arts pallet. No idea what it does but it seems they will be making changes to the game's combat. I think a lot about how combat in numbered Xenoblade games could be improved but I've never been able to think of solid ways to improve X's combat lol

You can now tab between your mission objective and squad tasks, meaning the tasks will no longer violate the corner of your screen against your permission. You'd better still do those tasks though! I need my tickets.
