G'raha nods reflexively, feeling a gravity in the admission, but he doesn’t truly understand. “Were they close?” he asks, tentative and confused. “Were they..?” He’s about to ask if they were friends, but the question seems trite and absurd. He ponders the conundrum a moment longer. He knows so little about Estmar — he was a goldsmith, Khovu’s mentor. He was almost certainly Ala Mhigan, and he knew Adalind and her husband well. Adalind, who saw Khovu out with another boy and assumed he was on a date — seemed to hope he was on a date. Adalind, who spoke fondly of Estmar but never mentioned his spouse, or any of his children — rather, spoke as if Khovu was his child — Khovu seems to have two adopted parental figures — two fathers — and both of them were men, and one of them — one of them hasn’t been seen since the other died, and — “Oh,” G'raha says. “Oh.” He flushes red from nose to tail. He feels something warm shifting beneath his hand — Khovu’s thigh. He is squeezing it very hard. Khovu smiles again, and this time it shatters through his quiet grief; it’s fond, amused; it sets his eyes alight. “They were… complicated,” he says. He sets his hand atop G'raha’s and squeezes it, picks it up. “Let’s get you into something more comfortable.”

I got the G'raha sticker for my water bottle at GWF and it's so cute!! I didn't realize G'raha glowed until yesterday - he looks even cuter lit up, and it was so handy for finding my bottle on the floor of a dark theater 😅

for #wipwednesday. takes place shortly after the end of patch 5.3, before the licking incident. major ShB spoilers, and CW for canon-typical violence.
He isn’t avoiding G’raha. And if he was, he’d be doing a better job of it. Khovu is a champion avoider. He’s been running away from one thing or another for most of his life, and he learned from the best. He can evade a problem effortlessly, like a scalekin swims or a cloudkin soars; if he was avoiding G’raha, they would never share the same continent, much less the same room. And yet, he sees G’raha every day — in Scion’s Rest, helping Krile reach something on a shoulder-high shelf; in the market, delivering sandwiches to the vendors; in the training yard, sweating and panting as he masters new spells. G’raha is everywhere. Khovu can still feel the thunderous rumble of those golden doors closing between them. He can hear the gunshot that lays G’raha low. He can see the azure spurs of crystal engulfing G’raha’s limbs, his chest, his throat, his face. Late at night, Khovu gives into the petty thoughts that haunt his days. He curls into a nest of blankets and fumes at the bitter irony of losing someone so many times and still, somehow, tripping over them everywhere he goes. He cradles the sentiment close, examines it briefly, then quashes it — deep, deep down into the depths of his heart, where no one else will have to see it. The Source needs its Warrior of Light. It has no use for a lovesick child.

(this is post-ShB, and I need y'all to know that they have not gotten back together yet. Khovu is doing this to his ex. he's a monster.)
G’raha is staring at his hand. He’s been staring at his hand for a long while. He sees flesh, pale and freckled, a tan forming around the edges of his discarded gauntlet. But he feels nothing, not the texture of his halfslops under his palm nor the salt-soaked sea breeze across his skin. And he remembers — as if it were mere moments ago — a different hand, a different life — crystal, creeping up his arm, numb and cold and lifeless like the frozen husk he left behind — Another hand settles on top of his wrist, squeezing gently. But can G’raha really feel the pressure, or does he see those foreign fingers contracting and imagine the sensation? Does he feel the warmth leaching into his wind-chilled skin, or does he simply wish to feel it, with a bone-deep grief built over a century of creeping necrosis? Something bumps into his shoulder, hard. G’raha, startled, topples over — catches himself on one elbow, scraping his skin raw on the rocks and sand — and stares up at Khovu. “Oops,” Khovu says, looking only a little sorry. His curls are mussed from his nap, their tie lost somewhere on the blanket; they cascade haphazardly down his neck, and the rays of the setting sun set fire to their edges. He looks tired, still — he always looks tired, these days — but refreshed, if only a little. He’s staring down at G’raha with his head tilted in confusion, as if he cannot fathom why G’raha is sprawled across the ground. “I’m fine,” G’raha says. He knows the question before Khovu can ask it. “I don’t believe you,” Khovu huffs back at him, eyes narrowed, but fondly. “Your hand isn’t that interesting.” G’raha glances down, rubbing his wrist with a guilty flick of his tail. “I’m fine… physically. My thoughts were wandering.” He wants to reassure Khovu that it is nothing to be concerned with, but he can already see two steps ahead in the conversation and knows the other Miqo’te will not be convinced. “It feels like a dream,” he admits instead, small and close to his chest. “Sometimes I think — that I might still be asleep, in the tower, dreaming of this. Dreaming that I am not still — still warped by the encroaching crystal.” Khovu huffs again, regarding G’raha’s hand for a long, ponderous moment. He takes it in his own, cradles G’raha’s fingers gently, inspecting them as he might examine a precious gem on his cutting table. Then he lifts it, carefully, towards his face — and licks it. “Khovu!” G’raha yelps aloud, reflexively recoiling from the sensation. Khovu’s tongue is hot and rough and wet, leaving a trail of saliva straight across G’raha’s palm that tingles in the forest breeze. But Khovu doesn’t let go, is smirking maliciously as he tugs back, and G’raha instead tumbles into his lap — limbs akimbo — and Khovu licks him again. Oh, Twelve above — his tongue works its way up G’raha’s thumb, laving obscenely over the pad, and then Khovu takes the whole digit in his mouth, nips gently at the tender skin. G’raha moans, feels a wet gush of slick between his thighs — Khovu can’t do this to him, it’s inhumane, it’s torture — But Khovu lips are tugged into a grin around G’raha’s skin, and his eyes are sparkling with a playful mischief that G’raha hasn’t seen in — in two years, in a hundred years, in far too long. He smirks around G’raha’s thumb, still held captive between his teeth, and signs, mouth full of G’raha, “Tastes like flesh to me.” G’raha groans. He’s flushed right up to his ears, which won’t stop quivering atop of his head. “Mercy, please!” he begs, one-handed, bristled tail lashing. “You’ve made your point!” Khovu releases him; G’raha’s thumb slips free with a wet pop, and he cradles the whole hand close, rubbing fretfully at his wrist. He scrambles out of Khovu’s lap, retreating to a fulm or so away; Khovu watches his retreat, amused, then flops right next to him anyway, shoulder-to-shoulder. “Better or worse?” he asks, and if he can smell the arousal, hot and sticky between G’raha’s legs, he says nothing about it. G’raha can still see it — it’s all he can see, now, Khovu’s mouth wrapped around his finger, the echo of his tongue licking, hot and eager, up the length of it. “Better,” he’s forced to admit, ears pinned, as Khovu’s spit dries on his skin. He does, inexplicably, feel much improved.

“In all seriousness,” Khovu relents, finally, and flops onto the sofa beside G'raha. “You’ve worn plenty of risqué outfits for my pleasure, love, and most of them well outside your comfort zone. I think it high time I return the favor.” He drapes an arm over G'raha’s shoulders, fingers toying fondly with the end of his braid. “And who else should I ask to craft it? It’s — it’s nice, in all honesty, working on something for myself.” It’s his turn to be shy now, his gaze darting briefly to his lap — still covered by one of their sofa cushions. G'raha curls into his side, grounding himself with a deep breath against his chest. “You wear plenty of things you’ve made,” he prompts, thinking of the vast array of magitek devices Khovu carries into battle. “I make things for… for Khovu Stormclaw,” he says, spelling his Eorzean name. “Warrior of light, defender of Etheirys.” His expression goes soft, and he pauses to trace the line of G'raha’s necklace down the hollow of his throat. “I can scarcely remember the last thing I made for me.” His eyes are such a deep, melancholy violet; he’s heartbreakingly beautiful. G'raha feels his chest swell near to bursting. “Khovu,” he says, his lover’s name sign. And then he leans up, pressing their lips together in a lingering, aching kiss.

they get into a very unusual (for AMSL) habit of greeting each other by name post-ShB, which is when G'raha finally realizes that this guy he was dating for months was, essentially, calling him by his first and last name the whole time 😆

(spoilers, I guess, for the next chapter of my ARR fic)
There are so many questions G’raha yearns to ask, but he isn’t sure he’s ready to know the answers to most of them. Catching Khovu’s eye, he signs instead, “... would you call me Raha?” Khovu tilts his head, studying him curiously. “Do you want me to?” He nods, more fiercely than he intended. “Yes. I — I’ve wanted it ever since that first afternoon we spent together in Ul’dah.” He wrings his only free hand, nervously, then continues, “You know it’s not uncommon, between friends and family, and especially after...” His blush returns, burning at his cheeks. “Well, you’ve been inside of me. I hardly think a tribe should come between us after that.” This, finally, shakes a laugh out of Khovu, one he can hear on the gentle breeze that ruffles through their hair. “As you wish, Raha,” he signs, and G’raha’s heart takes flight.

In the middle of the bar! “These are magical? Where are they from?” G'raha’s tail shoots straight up behind him, bristled like a startled cactuar. Khovu’s fingertips are so warm against his skin. Little levin-sharp prickles tingle in the wake of his touch, where Khovu’s aether searches beneath his skin. “I, ah — yes, they are — they are marks of scholarship in Sharlayan,” he stammers, “bestowed upon those who demonstrate exceptional contributions in their fields.” This is normal, he tells himself. Eorzeans are much more forward than Sharlayans. Khovu allowed G'raha to touch his magical tattoo, and now he’s touching G'raha’s magical tattoo, and this is a very normal thing to do between acquaintances. Friends. Khovu called them friends.

Zenos, sort of? Khovu hates the guy and wishes he'd lose Khovu's number, but his death at the end of StB really fucks Khovu up.

Excerpt below from the unpublished fic about it. CW for graphic descriptions of a dead body. I've cut out some narration between images 2 and 3, where the ellipsis is.
The Royal Menagerie was not planted for Miqo’te. The expanse of flowers might smell pleasantly sweet to Hyur noses, but to Khovu it is cloying, overwhelming. He can’t pick apart any individual scent, just a dizzying, floral mass pressing in on him. He can’t smell if any of his party remain on the rooftop. He can no longer smell the singed heat of the battle that ended just moments ago. He can smell little more than the drying blood on his own armor and the sickly, syrupy stench of the blooms around him. Zenos’ crumpled body lies just a couple feet away from him, marinating in his own blood, and Khovu can’t smell a thing. He kneels on the pavers and watches a light breeze stir up wisps of blond hair. In the stillness of death there is no trace of the primal that Zenos fused himself to, nor the stolen Echo in his eyes. He doesn’t look any older than Khovu. He doesn’t — he doesn’t look any older than — The breeze fills his nose with flowers. He’s in the palace gardens; his knees are not wet with spring water and rot. It’s been two years. It’s hard to believe that the man who has terrorized him for months, threatened and endangered nearly everyone Khovu loves, can seem so small now. … “I… I thought I would feel different,” Khovu admits eventually, gaze still fixed on Zenos’ body. “I’ve been so angry, ever since — since I found Wilred.” Bleak tendrils clutch at his ankles, trying to drag him back to that grisly scene at Urth’s Gift. Another place, another time, another corpse. The air is so thin up here. “I’ve been carrying it for so long,” he continues. “I thought, when this was over - if I could give him what he always wanted, that I would feel something different.” Radulfr is an unmoving presence beside him. The two of them have never been good at this. “But I don’t,” Khovu admits. “I feel… nothing. Like all the anger has poured out, and I’m just a hollow shell. Like I could just shatter, and there would be nothing left inside.”

He gestures magnificently at the veritable mountains of tomes piled around them, an unspoken challenge to G’raha’s objections. G’raha’s own ears pin back. Admittedly, there might be a few more volumes than his existing shelves can accommodate, but… “Well — I haven’t had much time for tidying. It’s been a very hectic…. century.” He feels himself begin to wither under Khovu’s critical gaze. “G’raha,” Khovu sighs, and despite himself G’raha’s ears still perk up at the sight of his name. “You’re a hundred years old, half your joints are made of crystal, and you’re reading on your floor because you’ve lost your chairs under all of these books. Let me build you more shelves.” “How do you feel?” he asks, when Khovu finally graces him with an open eye. “So much better,” Khovu admits, with a small smile half-buried in G’raha’s pillow. “How about you?” “The best sleep I have had in years,” G’raha replies, candidly. “I think it might be true what they say, that Miqo’te aren’t meant to sleep alone.” Khovu looks terribly pleased at that. “Then you should come back to bed.” “I will not,” G’raha laughs, “but I will bring you coffee, and then you can join me for lunch.” “It’s too early for lunch.” “It is well past twelfth bell,” G’raha assures him, “and you need to eat. But you may lounge here in as much indolence as you like while I fetch your coffee. Then you will have to get up.” “You were sleeping,” G’raha realizes, ears immediately drooping. “And now I’m not,” Khovu replies with a shrug, apparently entirely unbothered at his rude awakening. He peers at the basket under G’raha’s arm, nose twitching, then his own ears perk up in delight. “Are those… sandwiches?” “I - yes, I wanted to make sure you were eating - “ Khovu throws wide the door, beckoning G’raha in. “Oh! I don’t have to stay...” “Do you have somewhere better to be?” Khovu asks, a teasing glint in his eye, which finally cracks a smile out of G’raha. “No.” He allows himself to be drawn into the suite. “I don’t believe such a place exists.”

Khovu feels a plaintive whine in his own throat, and G'raha must hear it, because he smirks like a supremely self-satisfied coerl and presses a teasing kiss into the head of Khovu's dick. Khovu bites back a shout of tortured pleasure, and makes claws in the poor cushion beside him. His other hand trails down, trembling over the ruddy swirl of ink on G'raha's neck, revealed at last by the now-gaping front of his shirt. That's where he first feels it - the purr rumbling through G'raha's chest, up his throat, just before he grins cruelly and swallows down Khovu's cock.
