Agree, a facts-based and robust cost-benefit analysis is needed on each improvement based as far as possible on actual data and not what people ‘wish’ data to be. That goes for all sides of the argument….

Indeed, a full negotiation will take time. Needs to be parallel track on seeking improvements that can be made now within existing parameters (eg e-health certificates etc.). Some will say this is not possible but discussions are worth having…

Regulation needs to focus on the needs an offering seeks to address (eg news/info) and less on the medium (social/print media etc). If so, major podcasts need to uphold same standards as TV shows. Like VAT registration, it needs a point (eg 25k followers) at such requirements become obligatory.

It might have to be coupled with EU countries doing more to minimise illegal immigration across the Channel, to make it more palatable. Exactly what that might entail is another question…

Have you had a look at the Irish census results for 1901? That might have been too late but a useful resource. Also, there’s the Griffith’s Valuation series from the 1850s which could also help to establish some links. Best of luck with the search www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Insightful article. Land use needs to be a sustainable balance between each of these uses & find synergies. Agree a land use strategy is needed. It cannot be piecemeal, needs to be UK-wide. Arguably, it should also set standards for land used to grow imported food as a condition of sale in the UK.
