Listen to music.

Music can have an excellent mood-boosting effect. Dance around your living room or belt out your favourite song.

Get outside.

Take a walk, spend time in nature, and notice your surroundings. Being in a green space can have a calming effect.

Engage your senses.

Choose an everyday task and focus on your senses: smell, touch, sound, taste and sight to help ground yourself.

Connect.

Reach out to family or friends. Talking to someone can help lighten the load and organise your thoughts.

Breathe.

Breathing exercises can help you relax. Try the 4-5-8 method: breathe in for 4, hold for 5, and breathe out for 8. Repeat as often as needed.

New statistics show that suicide rates are at their highest since 1999.

Behind every number is a story.

Reach out and show someone they’re not alone today.

💙 What a day we had in Birmingham this weekend.

To the hundreds of people who lit up the night to raise money and awareness for mental health at GLOW on Saturday, thank you.

There's still some spots left for GLOW London on October 11. Join us 👉 bit.ly/4pHle61

It's okay to pause if you feel overwhelmed. Give yourself permission.

Focus on what you enjoy about the colder months, such as the opportunity to wind down and to get cosy.
mhealthuk.bsky.social
Manage stress levels by doing something you enjoy each day or introduce new hobbies.

Make time to chat and connect with family and friends during darker evenings.

Set up a routine to get outside and make the most of the natural daylight. ☀️

As the seasons change and the days grow shorter, it’s natural to long for the brighter months. You may also notice shifts in your mental health.

Here are some ways to care for yourself this autumn. 👇

Choose how you respond to distressing news.

Talk to a friend or loved one about how you’re feeling, do something that gives you hope, or focus on positive news stories.
mhealthuk.bsky.social
Only check your phone at certain times of the day.

If you find this difficult, keep it in another room, turn off notifications, or set your phone to offline mode.
mhealthuk.bsky.social
Recognise who profits from your outrage.

It’s worth keeping in mind that much of what we see online, in newspapers, and on TV is influenced by bias and shaped to capture attention.
mhealthuk.bsky.social
Contribute to a cause you care about.

When you feel hopeless, look for ways you can help. For example, donate to a fundraiser or volunteer with a charity tackling an issue you care about.
mhealthuk.bsky.social
Focus on what you can control.

If you’re feeling anxious, angry, or upset, think about the things you can control, such as helping a neighbour, supporting a charity, or writing to your MP.

Right now, with everything happening in the world, the news can feel overwhelming.

If you’re feeling unsettled and distressed, you’re not alone.
