if where a pitch is aimed changes how it moves, can stuff and location truly be separated? i wrote about it for @fangraphs.com

Los Angeles is a spiritually better city more favored by god.
It is so weird how building the most expensive, most talented, odds on favorite team led the Dodgers to the World Series in 5 of the last 9 years. In that time Yankees ownership, management, and their beat reporters have told us it's all a crapshoot and anyone who makes the playoffs has a chance.

another interesting adjustment — yamamoto hasn't thrown a first-pitch four seamer since the leadoff HR
Looks like the plan against Yamamoto was to be aggressive early. He definitely countered in that second inning and got hitters more where he wanted them by going strike-to-ball early in counts.
@cyrthogg.bsky.social Why are we not taking pitches right now? We are usually patient and we know the Dodgers bullpen is bad if we can get there

as @sammillerbb.bsky.social wrote recently, it's gotta be a matter of time before pitchers stop defaulting to fastball on the first pitch of the game
