Exciting day as @cancerresearchuk.org launches cancer manifestos for Scotland & Wales ahead of next year’s elections. We’re calling on all political parties to make strong commitments to transform cancer outcomes in both nations. Change is possible and, with bold & urgent action, it’s within reach.

Today our volunteer campaigns ambassadors were at Holyrood & the Senedd to launch our manifestos for change ahead of the 2026 Scottish & Welsh elections.

We welcome this change to cervical screening - a result of years of research to make it more effective. Screening, alongside the HPV vaccine our scientists helped develop, has seen cervical cancer rates fall by around 25% since the early 1990s. We look forward to more progress.

Today NHS England announced they’re updating their cervical screening programme so that people who are eligible are invited every five years instead of every three years. This change comes following an improvement to the screening test.
