@jef less fun to run in, I missed the sun by a half hour.
Photo of an enormous radio tower obscured by fog surrounded by trees on a hill. The Pacific Ocean is somewhere out there between the fog and the sun.

Do I know anyone who has used an online machine shop service like SendCutSend? I need a couple custom speaker brackets, and I could get some steel stock from a big box store and try to drill it myself, or I could order custom parts online for what seems like a very reasonable price.

four days of Half Dome. #MountainMonday #yosemite
Steep mountain slopes covered in pine but occasionally bare rock. Everything quite wet from the fog and rain, still lingering. Half Dome partially visible in the back. Dramatic view from on high looking up Tenaya canyon with half dome to the right side and the tree filled Yosemite valley below the grey granite cliffs. Half Dome from the North Dome trail, clouds lingering. Some scattered trees on the nearer granite. Half dome in a clearing afternoon storm, lit near sunset up the valley and encircled by a rainbow

mountain roadtrip wrapped up. back in the bay.
Tree at the base of a mountain covered in fog. Some tall grass in the foreground. Road leading to the horizon in the fog. An old rail bridge crosses the road between grassy hills. Grassy hills leading to a large mountain. A cow trail leads around a hill to a lone oak tree. Grassy hump with a large tree on one side and two small trees on the other. Very blue skies.

@cowperthwait I’m pretty happy my garmin watch only seems to have five ways to describe my days, no LLM required.

I had assumed the weather would drive me back down after a few miles but I kept walking and the weather continued to be perfect and at some point I was at the first rocky switchback up to Bishop Pass… and kept going. Already fearing the six miles back to the […]

Panoramic view of a rocky basin with a string of glacial lakes downward. The rocks in front are ferrous and metamorphic, which in the Sierra Nevada usually means you’re really high. (They are the remains of the rock that the granite so rudely intruded upon.) A rocky snowy trail leads further into lichen covered granite. A pointy ridge forms a distant wall. A lone figure in orange eats lunch on a rock. Many rocks and lichen and tiny little bushes with blue leaves dot the foreground. A wall of mountains is gray in the background. Rocks and autumnal tundra lead to a distant blue-grey wall of rocks, different from the previous ones.

spent the day walking around west of Bishop on a trail I’ve been visiting for over two decades now somehow. summer already long passed at 10000 ft / 3000m.
Lake lined by trees of green and gold. Four enormous peaks rise above into clearing clouds. A narrow lake winds between islands of trees and boulders. A large peak on the right is narrow like a flounder. Stones cross a shallow but wide stream. Treeless rocky mountains in the distance. A small dark figure walks down a rocky alley lined by autumnal aspens.

coincidentally (?) Zillow emailed to make sure I knew about this bizarre but cheap four acres of land along the rail leading to Tehachapi Loop. I’m sure it’s impossible to do anything with but what a novelty […]

crossed the Southern Sierra via White River Road, Alta Sierra, Isabella, and Walker Pass today. that part of the foothills is incredibly California. into Lone Pine just in time for the afternoon storm. #MountainMonday
Old asphalt road winds into ascending hills covered with golden grass and oak trees. Sharp mountain peaks pop out of scrubby high desert. A storm clears in the valley. A double rainbow appears over a black road with the photographer in shadow. The derelict old railroad station in Lone Pine sits at the bottom of a sharp relief. Amazingly the station sign is still partly legible behind the stacks of equally broken cars.

given a lever long enough …
A wide landscape of many distant blue mountains. In the front, a long narrow boulder the size of a lever rests precariously on a smaller boulder.
