Former SysProg moved on to being a payments specialist - and now trying to fully retire. — @FunnellMike over with the pachyderms & on what might still be Twitter (sort of).

Sydney, Australia.
According to Strava I’ve clocked just on 2,000km on push-bikes 🚲 in the last 12mths.

I picked a rather warm day to bring that figure up ☀️

Sorry: no sale 🖕

Recent experience showed me your business model: accept premiums; deny claims.

“We cover you for unavoidable delays (*)”, eh?”

When claiming:

(*) any delay *not* specifically listed in the fine print is, presumptively, avoidable and so excluded from claims.

I’m getting (Mel Brooks) “To Be or Not to Be” vibes here..😂

When Sally and I caught up this arvo she checked the camera out, taking this one with my phone. It was close, but the lens on the camera (barely) survived its stress test:

Summer has arrived in Canberra 🥶

I’m about to ride my 🚲 off into this.

At least I knew enough to bring suitable gear while visiting.

If you can’t take a joke..

It won’t cover you for the full period, but this might help (🤭):

A milestone (kilometre-stone 🤔) of sorts: 9,000km on the odometer of my e-bike (in five years). Not bad when mostly I’m taking short local trips of <5km.

Well: this seems like it popped up from almost nowhere. The flashes and bangs are awfully close-together.

⚡️ 💥 ⛈️

Fortunately: only small hail (so far):

On my return (as it were) from Lord Howe Island, I’ve had to go back to work.

I’ll call that “a tern for the worse”..

(These are all species of tern..)

Very sad - our aircraft has arrived, to take us away..

What amazes me is how such a large-seeming bird can disappear down such a small hole.

(Also that they dig their holes pretty much anywhere - walking tracks etc.)

Muttonbirds swirl around of an evening, over the dunes by the lagoon, looking for their chick in a burrow.

They are elegant while flying - but tend to belly-flop their landings 🤣

This one is the Lord Howe Island Woodhen - saved from extinction by elimination of feral pests from the island (goats and pigs, then cats, then rodents - mostly rats).

They no longer need to count and band them (this one is unbranded) as the population has recovered so well.

They’re everywhere! 😃

It’s a Green-Blocked Wrasse (I think).

Even the spiders are colourful here (though the back-light helped):

They sure are! Here’s another, from the other side of the island at Ned’s Beach:

It’s not all bird life and scenery at Lord Howe Island: sometimes things get a bit fishy..

I’d not been able to get close enough to a little White Eye (a close cousin to the mainland Silvereye) - until yesterday..
