Wheeeen theee
Bird in your room represents all your gloom
Nevermoré
When you're trying to grieve but that corvid won't leave
Nevermoré
It will rap
Tippy tippy tap
Tippy tippy tap
Waking you from naps aaand
Your dream-a
Then will fly
Never tell you why
Even if you cry
Landing on your sideboard Athena

My sympathy and solidarity with colleagues at UoW. There is a shocking leadership crisis in Australian Higher Ed and academic and professional staff are bearing the brunt.

Be alert in 2025 for lots more discussions about the problems in universities.

🚨Note the angle!

Beware if pieces fail to document or appreciate historic and ongoing systemic harms and cuts.

Or if accountability's deflected and solutions avoided by blaming staff and students and ignoring all else

Audiobooks 👏 are 👏 reading 👏

(That's it, that's the take)

Audio books are reading! All scholars of reading agree on this and we don’t agree on anything! @millicentweber.bsky.social is the authority here

Either way while Spotify is making radical (if still exploitative - but that's another conversation) moves into a new market, this is just Amazon playing their favourite game of Total Market Capture (TM)
millicentweber.bsky.social
This works both ways: folks who might have had both Spotify and Audible accounts could be considering coming across to Amazon music. Folks who had Amazon music accounts are encouraged to engage with the Audible catalogue as well.

Amazon already have a strong established customer base for audiobooks - the largest in the Anglophone world. By offering music subscribers a free audiobook they're just keeping them in the Amazon system.
millicentweber.bsky.social
Spotify are leveraging their existing successful platform and business model for music to introduce audiobooks - a (mostly) new to them format - and grow their customer base that way.
millicentweber.bsky.social
Amazon offering a free audiobook with a music sub may look like what Spotify is doing but it's actually the reverse. (See: www.thebookseller.com/news/amazon-...)
