just a vile treacherous Videogame that lies and steals. like Void Stranger for the steam machine (2026)

i have a checklist where i have 30 minutes a day of 1) programming 2) art 3) music production and 4) playing games, and the idea is that it gets me to START those things, which leads to me spending longer on them. i rarely do them all each day, but the point is to do a variety of things
November 17, 2025 at 1:25 PM
or drawing a single line rather than drawing an entire artwork. the activation energy to do those things is much lower, but it also lowers the activation energy of continuing by a LOT
November 17, 2025 at 1:25 PM
for me, it’s just STARTING these things that’s hard, but i enjoy them once i get going. if that’s true for you as well, then i would recommend lowering the bar of performing the activity. for example, “playing a video game” feels like work, but just turning on a console? that’s way easier

one time someone explained in detail how they were going through a really rough time and after they finished i accidentally said “wow that’s so cool!” so i get it. i think it cheered them up a little because it was so stupid tho

i am already this but for game development and it is perhaps my most fatal of flaws
November 15, 2025 at 8:23 PM
when planning games i usually just make a short list of Goals and write down a bunch of Ideas for how to achieve them. i make sections for different aspects of the game but it’s less like a checklist and more just not wanting to forget what i’ve already come up with lol
November 15, 2025 at 8:16 PM
it kinda sucks because a lot of the time the point of my games is a surprise and i want players to experience it as that. maybe i just make unmarketable games, not because they’re bad but because marketing them defeats the point
November 15, 2025 at 2:37 PM
i pretty much always just post a link to the game and say “play it pls!” without actually SHOWING the game because i want people to go in blind. but i think that stops people from going in at all
November 15, 2025 at 2:34 PM
i would happily trade the capital incentives that drive massive marvel movie projects for groups of people who believe in each other to be able to make cool stuff at a smaller scale. it sucks thinking about all the passion projects that could have been if people had the chance to thrive

i can’t say nintendo games are poorly made or anything (they employ plenty of talented devs), but they’re not FOR you
