The German government put out a study about the digital footprint of streaming video (and I also found a site from the Green Party requesting people stream SD, not HD video for carbon footprint reasons), but it’s the only example I’ve found of advocates addressing this

German study highlights carbon footprint of video streaming
Streaming high-definition videos and games can result in significant greenhouse gas emissions, depending on the technology used, according to a German government-backed study released Thursday. The re...

I think a huge problem is society sometimes elevating X stories by Y people while ignoring the stories X people write, but yeah the entire argument is often silly

Also, maybe it’s a bad thing that gays have a hard time grasping onto universal stories of love, family, and environmental stewardship.

Maybe our culture has valued consumerism and hedonism too much!

Would we listen to Eywa or just troll the RDA camps for military dick on Grindr?

Wicked: For Good had like 400 product tie-ins. Merchandizing is where Star Wars makes its money. The MCU has spinoffs and comics.

People like Kahn tend to just short-circuit when a movie can just be really good on its own.

Understandable, but there’s a few obvious shots of them flubbing (I’ve never really watched)

The internet was also disruptive. We don’t have phone operators anymore and office mail rooms are also a thing of the past.

Big companies, slow to change, will get outclassed by more nimble startups.

I really don’t think the end state of AI is “everyone out of work”. I think a lot of CEOs are motivated by short term thinking and want for that to happen, but they’d always like to reduce costs and the tech just isn’t there.

It’s most useful as a tool and will make people more productive.

I guess I’ve been around long enough to be skeptical of the hype while also recognizing there’s still utility.

Another reason this is getting so much investment is geopolitics. The US has benefitted from “owning” the internet, and now we have the next thing.

I think continued presence on Twitter despite it becoming a Nazi bar does call into question the sincerity of leftist and liberal beliefs, yes
November 26, 2025 at 5:52 PM
leftists can't even ditch twitter even though a full-on Nazi is running it. what more propaganda in the other direction to people need?

The ecological footprint that a site like YouTube has is immense. Video is the most carbon-intensive internet activity, yet you never see anyone bullied for watching in 4K even though streaming in SD is less energy-intensive.

you're clearly not familiar with the massive amount of water usage required to produce almonds and what it's doing to California's water supply.
November 26, 2025 at 5:13 PM
We have had AI for a long time already. That’s why a lot of the vitriol is silly.

And considering producing a carton of almond milk is the equivalent of 150-300k ChatGPT queries with regards to water usage, I think a lot of the environmental impact is overblown too.

They just need some space right now

Getting funding and, then, with the mocks getting contracts signed was pretty important! Then built upon that first draft to have a functional product via a combination of human and AI-assisted coding.

Especially now, we can do a lot with a very small sales engineering team.
