The Phantom Menace comparisons are apt. The people championing it now are the people who were kids when it came out and remember what a pop culture event it was.
A movie (or whatever) doesn't have to be good to be iconic. It just needs to saturate pop culture. It's just a part of Y2K nostalgia now.

Re: an aside early in this episode, I really do love Season 2 of the podcast. It's hilarious, it covers a period of time that is both fascinating and completely crap, and you can listen to the whole thing in a weekend. It's great, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I could only find one example via Google, but I SWEAR there are multiple other albums from other artists that feature guitar spaceships. It was a whole thing! Can anyone find any other examples?

He was just before my time, so I had to read about his lore online after the fact. I literally gasped when I read about his promo telling O.J. Simpson "Keep up the good work!" in front of a crowd of yokels. It's darkly comedic but I'd never want to see anyone push the envelope like that now.

It turned out the Wi-Fi I was on somehow automatically put YouTube in restricted mode. When I got off their Wi-Fi, everything was fine.
