Tangential to this thread: the Bluesky nuclear block even further divides public conversation as any thread owner can just nuke any criticism with a block. I’ve been blocked by OPs for answering another persons question deep in a thread, effectively deleting my answer from the context completely.

Bluesky comments are like this, if you’re on any thread about AI it will be full of inaccuracies, falsehoods and misconceptions. I don’t think that you need exact, precise definitions to discuss this, but it’s hard to inform when doing so elicits so much back lash.

I used to play this game before I stopped using Reddit years ago, where I would imagine the top comment for a given Reddit post. 99% saying one thing and maybe 1% dissenting, which gets downvoted into oblivion out of social obligation

There are much nicer parts of the internet where people are genuinely looking to learn and have a conversation, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Bluesky is not one of those spaces.

For every 1 honest person acting in good faith there are dozens who just want someone to be mad at. Often times I’m the guy to get mad at because I’m speaking from a place of authority about various AI models, you know because that’s part of my career.

Without fail, someone with little to no technical background will come into the replies shrieking about ethics or something completely unrelated to the conversation. Yes I’ve discussed my own ethical issues with AI, no I don’t need to re-litigate it on every thread with every random person

I’ve stopped engaging in many conversations where uninformed people are engaging in good faith. I used to drop into threads and provide some relatively unbiased information about AI tools or other technology.
